climber511
I did 175 for 5 today left and right so I guess my max right now is ............... 175#.
odin
Perhaps this lift will end up being a handy estimate of how close people are to lifting the Inch, at least better than the RT. Not a bad way to train for the Inch either...
Bob Lipinski
180 easy for me today but 190 just went up a few inches. 200 at gripmas? Also, unless my memory is complete shit, Zach hit a good 160 at Larkins. And Thorton did 190, but I know he is sandbagging it.
Timo Tuukkanen
Very nice!!! I'm sure that bar is considerably harder than an IM Axle but do you have any idea of your numbers on an IM bar? Either way, that's an exceptional lift! Oh - that's a very nice bar! Indeed it's a very very nice bar... i like it a lot obviously! I did 180kg with AA on 03.10.2009 at Finnish open, but did not get 190kg had to drop it just before final lock position... I think that 1,5week resting after contest has done it's job and now feeling that AA might be 195 - up to 200kg... Personally i find it quite easier with solid axle, which is nice for me also! Timo Tuukkanen
One question I have Timo, or anyone else that knows, does the rotating bar try to turn out of your hand less than a solid axle or pipe does? Either way, super strong stuff bro!!!!! Since tried both versions several times, i feel it easier with solid axle , perhaps pipe without knurling is close to fatbar or even little bit harder; haven't tried pipe so i'm not sure... My opinion is that when solid axle lift is done quite fast to lock position and then down it's much easier. If you try to bend your wrist at the beginning solid axle is going to start rotating (if you can not keep your wrist bended) and with heavy weights there is no way to stop it... With the fatbar; if your grip slides even a little bit at the beginning it's game over already

asickber
I saw the thread and thought I'd try it today. Surprisingly I got 213 with right and left both. I didn't try more as I had to take the kids I'm coaching out of the weightroom for a run. I'll try to go over 220 in the next few weeks. asickber
I've never tried a DO axle. I'll give it a try in the next few weeks too. Quick question. Does it matter for the one hand if I straddle the bar or if I have it in front like a normal deadlift? I watched the videos and everybody is straddling it. I had it in front of me. Is there a difference? Edited October 20, 2009 by asickber
knyaz
135 lbs last workout axle bar in the front of me style, after a 4 mile run and other body workouts, will need to try this again when fresh !!! think i have another 15 - 20 in me

Is there a difference? On the one hand DL most people find it more comfortable to straddle but it is purely a preference thing. Andrew Durniat at the top of the list does them in front I believe. Try them both ways and see what feels best. Obviously you can't lock out between legs, so the standard that is in use is clearly above the knees with the legs straight. I try to pull everything as high possible with legs straight. Nice job on the 135 Steve! asickber
I couldn't resist and decided to try the DO axle today even though my forearms were a little sore from yesterday when I tried the one handed axle. I got 393. Broke 403 from the floor but my hands didn't have any more left today. I may be at a bit of an advantage though, my axle was never painted so it has a light surface rust which I would think helps with the grip. This a neat challenge though. I'm not sure if you realize it, but that's a world class pull on a 2" axle. Take a look at the race to 400# DO axle DL thread and join in. The world record in competition is only 70 or so pounds higher than what you pulled on your first time ever! pulled 155 lbs just now Right hand : ) Bam! Shoggoth
Gave it a try after KTA tonight and pulled 153# (33# bar) without to much difficulty. I think I'll get in on this after as well! Looks like a hoot!

asickber
I figured I would have a decent DO Axle but wouldn't have thought it would be anywhere near a world class level. For anybody that trains the DO axle, what type of a rep scheme do you do?
Shoggoth
Ouch! No more thick bar during KTA. See you back in a couple of weeks.
asickber
I'm not sure how to edit my last post, but just realized that everybody in the race to a 400 DO axle is posting their routines so please disregard my last post. Thanks

Shoggoth
Went and gave it a try again tonight after playing with the KB's and got 163#'s with both hands. Man these fry my flexors hard! I noticed that when I was doing thick handled dumbbell lifts in the past. I can't wait to get into these whole-heartedly!
