Dang man. I’m sorry to hear that. Have you heard of prolotherapy? Might work and be a lot cheaper.

Haven't discussed prolotherapy, but he did say that PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections could be an option.  But they run about $2k a pop and are not covered at all by insurance because they are still experimental.

Basically, this whole thing has been prolotherapy.   My a$$hole prolapses every time I get a bill because they're dang sure not using any lube.  Not even a complimentary reach around.  😳

Man hip pain stinks.

Now before I give you medical advice you should know that my medical credentials include daydreaming all the time about being a highly regarded Mayo Clinic osteopath.

About six years ago or so I had hip pain that limited the time I could spend driving and I had to skip two canyon trips because I couldn't hike without pain. I thought I needed a new hip for sure. It's gone for the most part now except when I rotate into my left hip. The things I do that might be helping manage the pain are two hand kettlebell swings, wide stance iso squats (like I'm catching but wider), and roll hamstrings and glutes with a rumble roller. None of those activities hurt while I was doing them.

None of that will cure tears or arthritis, though it might also do nothing to help. But, maybe it will a little.

Yea, for the last couple months I have tried rolling, stretching, deep tissue massage, strengthening exercises for hip muscles, several pt sessions, and even mumbo jumbo voodoo hoodo cupping.  It just gets worse every day now, no matter what I do.  The x-ray shows bad arthritis, but we'll have a much clearer picture after the mri.  This doc is one of the best hip specialists in Maryland.  Works with the Ravens.  He's trying everything to save my original parts since I'm relatively young.  Hopefully just a scope to fix labrum will buy me a decade.  Given my genetics, that's probably more than I'll need. 😱

Just weird that it bothered me for 15 years but wasn't horrible.  Then suddenly it fell off the cliff almost overnight.

@Mike RinderleI hate hearing about your hip and pain troubles, buddy!  I hope you can find a bandaid fix and get it replaced in January.

Thanks buddy.  I could always start drinking heavy again.  Lol

Did you discuss the resurfacing procedure? I've heard that can buy some time as well.

Going to discuss all those options after this 3T MRI on Thursday.

Best of luck with recovery. Sorry this hit you so hard.

2" filets should fix everything.

project maintain continues.

Bench: planned on doing 195 for a 5x5.  Right shoulder and elbow were really acting up so I stopped after 1st set.

Overhead doesn't hurt shoulder as bad as bench, so switched to ohp pin presses.  Pins set about eyebrow level.  Each rep dead stop.

95 x 10, 135 x 5, 95 x 10

Yates rows up to bw (250) x 5.

Bunch of band press downs and curls.

3 hours of yardio.

Hip replacement update:

3 weeks post surgery.  Way ahead of all my milestones.   Already feels way better than it did pre-surgery.

Only issue is that my right leg is now about an inch longer than my left.  Not thrilled about that.  Going to have to wear some sort of a lift in left shoe going forward I guess.  Already messing with my lower back.

Anyway, hope everyone's training is going well.

Glad you're feeling better buddy. That leg length thing can be pretty problematic I'd think.

Take it easy, Michael

Good to hear you are on the mend. Did the surgeon have an explanation for the leg length difference? Did you remind him to measure twice and cut once?😆

I was pretty out of it when I talked to him after surgery.  Will find out more when I talk with him next week.

First time back in the shed of pain in over 8 months.  Hip is doing great.  Just moved a little weight to see how everything felt.  I can tell I lost a lot on bench.

Bench: 135 3x10.  Much harder than it should have been.

Yates rows: 135 3x10. Easy peasy.  Kept it light just to see how hip would feel.  All good.

Barbell curls with just the bar to get some blood flowing.  3x10.

Very similar workout to the other day.  Still just getting the body used to doing something post hip replacement. Upped the sets by 1.

BP: 135 4x10

Yates rows: 135 4x10

Lateral raises and EZ bar curls.

We are moving to a new home on the 21st.  It's a townhouse that comes with a decent community center gym.  Mostly machines, but certainly good enough for the type of lifting I'll be doing until my ticket gets punched.

So I've come to the sad decision to sell all my weights and bars.  I'll miss them, but plan to continue with more of a bodybuilding type program.  No more PRs for Old Man Rindo.  😢
