Guest Bullitt
Tire work with 8lb sledge. 5X30strikes with 20 seconds rest between sets. Each set made up of 10 over rt. shoulder, 10 over left shoulder, and 10 straight overhead. Then did some hamstring face plants as i like to call them. (Glute ham raise) One set of 8. These kill me. I'm very tall and my mass seems to be concentrated in chest/shoulder/upper back region. Not me, but so you know what I'm talking about... Guest Bullitt
Did some high volume grip work this morning. Right hand still sore so i didn't push it. The sledge work yesterday didn't help. lol Will be travelling Saturday through Thursday, so trying to get as much in as possible. Will be a good layoff. Strong hand: HG250: 20 HG200: 30 Weak hand: HG200: 43 (PR) 6'3" 240Lbs 41 years young - Ripped the Baltimore metro phone book (dang thick ) among others. - CofC 2.5: 3X strong 0X weak - HG250: 24X strong 9X weak - HG200: 54X strong 43X weak - Pinch gripped two 25Lb olympic plates, smooth side out. - One handed deadlift 45Lb Hex dumbell on end. Guest Bullitt
Blackjack after work today. Started with 10 seconds rest in between, but as the squat number climbed higher, the rest got longer. Held a 45 lb plate in each hand for the squats and did all 21 sets in about 35 minutes total. All but dead as i type this. 210 squats, even with just 90Lbs is a lot for this old man. Will definitely feel them in the morning. Also noticed that the added weight on the squats seemed to make the pushups that much harder. As did the shorter rest periods early on. Thanks Egg. lol
Guest Bullitt
Edit to post above: 20 sets. Now that that's out of the way... New PR on 2.5 this morning!!!!!!! 5 reps strong hand. Did one more set and couldn't get 3rd closed so did 10 second static hold. Lefty: Did 8 and 7 reps on HG250. Got inside a centimeter with the 2.5 The everyday training in moderation seems to be paying off. I am traveling most of next week, so I am hoping to crush personal bests with both hands after the nice layoff and recovery. 6'3" 240Lbs 41 years young - Ripped the Baltimore metro phone book (dang thick ) among others. - CofC 2.5: 5X strong 0X weak - HG250: 24X strong 9X weak - HG200: 54X strong 43X weak - Pinch gripped two 25Lb olympic plates, smooth side out. - One handed deadlift 45Lb Hex dumbell on end. Guest Bullitt
Left hand was feeling really good so I did a set on HG250 and hit new PR of 10. Lefty is starting to catch up. I see a 2.5 close in the next month or so. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Right is still a little tender so I didn't push it. 6'3" 240Lbs 41 years young - Ripped the Baltimore metro phone book (dang thick ) among others. - CofC 2.5: 5X strong 0X weak - HG250: 24X strong 10X weak - HG200: 54X strong 43X weak - Pinch gripped two 25Lb olympic plates, smooth side out. - One handed deadlift 45Lb Hex dumbell on end. Guest Bullitt
Some grip work this morning and a new PR on the left hand. It is feeling much stronger. Definitely going to close the 2.5 by the end of the month lefty (at least that's the goal). Left: 12 reps on HG250 (PR!) Got 6 the second set. Right: Matched PR with 5 reps. Then did 3 but experienced some pain so stopped. I will enjoy the weekend off. Driving to Cincy to see my kids this afternoon. Can't wait, as I have an old HG 100 I will be giving to my 13 year old son to begin his grip training with. He plays Hockey, Lacrosse, and Football. He'll be a mash monster some day. Have a GREAT weekend everybody! 6'3" 240Lbs 41 years young - Ripped the Baltimore metro phone book (dang thick ) among others. - CofC 2.5: 5X strong 0X weak - HG250: 24X strong 12X weak - HG200: 54X strong 43X weak - Pinch gripped two 25Lb olympic plates, smooth side out. - One handed deadlift 45Lb Hex dumbell on end. Guest Bullitt
Just before hitting the road, thought I'd take a shot at my right hand PR on the HG250. Beat it by 2!!!! 26 full reps. I haven't made a run at the HG200 right handed in a while. Once I catch up to my rt. hand record with the left I may put it back out of reach. Now that I have closed the 2.5 I hate to go back, but I do need endurance work from time to time. 100 closes on that bad boy would be a cool accomplishment. Now it's time for some rest and recovery. have a great weekend all! 6'3" 240Lbs 41 years young - Ripped the Baltimore metro phone book (dang thick ) among others. - CofC 2.5: 5X strong 0X weak - HG250: 26X strong 12X weak - HG200: 54X strong 43X weak - Pinch gripped two 25Lb olympic plates, smooth side out. - One handed deadlift 45Lb Hex dumbell on end. Guest Bullitt
Got back home last night at midnight. Son loved the gripper!!! I also pinch gripped two 45's smooth side out, both hands, no chalk, full deadlift while walking through the aisle at Dick's Sporting goods with my son. lol Always wanted to try that and that seemed like as good a time as any. Fly out tonight for 3 days. Sliced the outside of my thumb up pretty bad loading my suitcase in the trunk. I hit the grippers this morning. Cut didn't seem to bother me, so I went for it. New PR on 2.5! Right: IM 2.5 5,6 (PR), 3 (May be time to buy the #3) Left: Centimeter away on 2.5. HG250: 12, 6 (pain in top of hand so I stopped). 6'3" 240Lbs 41 years young - Ripped the Baltimore metro phone book (dang thick ) among others. - CofC 2.5: 6X strong 0X weak - HG250: 26X strong 12X weak - HG200: 54X strong 43X weak - Pinch gripped two 25Lb olympic plates with each hand (no chalk). - Two handed pinch grip: 2 45Lb olympic plates (no chalk). - One handed deadlift 45Lb Hex dumbell on end (no chalk). Guest Bullitt
Worked out at hotel gym a couple times while I was away. Grip strength is actually down after the layoff. Was only able to get 3 closes on 2.5. back at it. I seem to respond better to every day training for grip with a day off here and there. I don't seem to make progress if i only train grip once or twice a week, or have a layoff of a few days.
Guest Bullitt
barbell front, hack, and zercher squats last night. Then did walking lunges up a hill carrying 20lb KB in each hand. Romanian deads and some ham/glute face plants. Grippers this morning. very disappointing. Grip strength way down. The trip sapped me i guess. Guest Bullitt
Did second gripper workout once i woke up a bit this afternoon. Way Better. Got 2.5 closed 4 times (these are with no set). Also set new PR on HG200 for strong hand - 56 reps. Left hand was very strong as well. 6'3" 240Lbs 41 years young - Ripped the Baltimore metro phone book (dang thick ) among others. - CofC 2.5: 6X strong 0X weak - HG250: 26X strong 12X weak - HG200: 56X strong 43X weak - Pinch gripped two 25Lb olympic plates with each hand (no chalk). - Two handed pinch grip: 2 45Lb olympic plates (no chalk). - One handed deadlift 45Lb Hex dumbell on end (no chalk). DIPS: 10 reps with bodyweight (240) 6 reps with 45lbs added 1 rep with 90lbs added 6 reps with bodyweight Tricep pushdowns with rope, D handle, and angled bar. Felt good today. Guest Bullitt
Took a 3 mile hike with the beautiful and talented Mrs. this afternoon. When we got home, I did some levering with the 8 pound sledge. New to this. Was able to get 5 reps w/ both hands to nose. (standard 36" hickory handle). Last couple with left hand were not great form, but completed. Also did some side to side slow twists holding middle of handle and some weaver stick type holds choked up a little ways on the handle. Was able to grip and hold the 23lb block of marble for 1 min each hand as well.
Guest Bullitt
Some grip work today. Doubles and some inverted closes. Not much, as my hands were a bit fried from the levering and static holds with the block weight yesterday. This evening's workout: 90 seconds rest between sets Pullups: Bodyweight (240lbs) 10 sets X 3 reps (Last set did 6 reps) Deadlifts: 205Lbs 10 sets X 3 reps Bent over barbell rows: 135lbs 10 sets X 3 reps (last set did 10 reps and still had some in tank - definitely used too little weight for these. I'll have to bump it up next week when I go to 10X4) Kettlebell Swings: 60lb KB 3 sets X 10 reps Not a bad day for having a chest cold that made breathing difficult at times. Guest Bullitt
Hammy has been doing some high rep work with his HG200 and I thought I would give mine a shot while fresh this morning. I usually don't hit that thing until after my other grip work. Most of the time it's just for a high rep burn at the end of a grip workout. Blew it up. Felt very strong. New PRs for both hands! HG200: Right hand - 65 reps (previous PR 56) Left hand - 50 reps (previous PR 43) 6'3" 240Lbs 41 years young - Ripped the Baltimore metro phone book (dang thick ) among others. - CofC 2.5: 6X strong 0X weak - HG250: 26X strong 12X weak - HG200: 65X strong 50X weak - Pinch gripped two 25Lb olympic plates with each hand (no chalk). - Two handed pinch grip: 2 45Lb olympic plates (no chalk). - One handed deadlift 45Lb Hex dumbell on end (no chalk). Guest Bullitt
Since the forearm endurance seemed high, I made a run at the 250 a little later on. HG250: right hand: 27 (new PR) left hand: 11 Hammy's HG250 is so much harder, it is messed up. Comparing our 250's was what brought home to us just how much variability the HG's have. CofC is definitely the way to go. 6'3" 240Lbs 41 years young - Ripped the Baltimore metro phone book (dang thick ) among others. - CofC 2.5: 6X strong 0X weak - HG250: 27X strong 12X weak - HG200: 65X strong 50X weak - Pinch gripped two 25Lb olympic plates with each hand (no chalk). - Two handed pinch grip: 2 45Lb olympic plates (no chalk). - One handed deadlift 45Lb Hex dumbell on end (no chalk). Guest Bullitt
One set of squats tonight, but what a set. Got all pumped up reading another thread on the grip board about the guy in Marunde's gym that did the 98 squats with 218lbs on the bar and had a body weight of 218. I got motivated and thought I would give it a try. Not with 218, cause that would be way too much, but I thought i would throw in some grip work with it and do it holding a 45 pound plate in each hand. So 90 + my bodyweight of 240 isn't quite the same but it killed. I set up the digital cam and was recording it, but the damn camera battery died at 15 seconds in. My wife (the official counter) realized it had stopped at about rep 58. I cussed and almost quit, but I kept going. 100 total reps. I can barely walk and probably won't be able to tomorrow. Most painful thing I ever put myself through. I finished it off with a set of romanian deadlifts to hit the hams a little better. Even though the camera died, I have two witnesses and everyone in our condo will probably vouch for me since I yelled and grunted my way through the last 15 reps. In all, it took a little under 7 minutes. Forearms were pretty shredded too when it was all said and done.

Guest Bullitt
Did some extension work with rubber bands. Felt good. Just doubled up a regular thick rubber band and it seemed to work pretty well. Did 3 sets of righty triples with 2.5 and called it a day. Did 10 reps on 250 lefty, another set of 5 and thought I would give the 2.5 a go. Still a centimeter away with left hand. Very depressing. lol Edited April 16, 2009 by Bullitt
