Guest woody36
Strongman. I was wandering about your rate of progression on the bigger steel, did you or your partner just leap from 1/2" to5/8" or do you use smaller increments to get to your eventual goal. hope everythings going well. thanks in advance Woody. terryduty
Woody, Sorry, but I have not tackled 5/8" (16 mm.) steel, yet (maybe I should change my handle to "Not-So-Strong-Man")). My training partner progressed from 1/2" hot rolled steel (HRS) to 1/2" Zinc-coated steel to 5/8" HRS and Zinc-coated steel. He is farther along with his bending than I am. He does bend these braced against his leg, though. I prefer to bend without bracing, so I'm still working on smaller steel, right now. Advice on bending bigger steel: remember that there are different types of steel with varying degrees of difficulty to bend. Also, the length of steel you're tackling is very important. Since you are very likely to use a different technique on different steel (i.e. bending 5/8" by bracing against your foot vs. bending 1/2" by bracing against your neck, or bending 6 ft. of steel vs. bending 2 ft. of steel, etc.), try to discover which technique you like best. If you prefer bending against your neck, which length is your favorite to bend using this technique? Once you have a favored technique and a favored length, go after different difficulties of metals. Hot rolled steel (HRS) is easier than Zinc-coated steel which is easier still than cold rolled steel (CRS). Train by working your way through HRS-to-Zinc coated-to-CRS. After you can do CRS, tackle thicker steel and begin this same progression over again. If you have access to these bars, you can also include aluminum and brass in the group of metals that you are bending. You've made some terrific strides in you bending! Keep up the good work! Sorry to hear about the pain you're experiencing in your hand - maybe some rest is warranted? Best regards. Strongman
