Calibrated Verdigriz's grippers today:

---------------------------------kgs-------lbs

BBGM (Rusty)----------------72.75-----160

BBGM (Cleaned)--------------71-------156

IM#3 2005-------------------69.75-----154

IM#3 2008 (1)---------------68.5------151

IM#3 2008 (3)----------------66-------145

IM#3 2008 (2)--------------65.25------144

HG300-----------------------65.25------144

BBSM -----------------------59.75------132

IM#2.5-----------------------56.5-------125

IM#2--------------------------49--------108

The rust made a 1.75kg (4lb) difference to the BBGM and it wasn’t even half as rusty as Timmy’s #3. Still, it’s a tough BBGM none the less. That’s a good progression of #3s for training. The 65.25kg (144lb) is the easiest I’ve come across, I’m about 1-2mm of closing it.

I also calibrated my two new grippers, a Warren Tetting Retro Beast and Retro He-Man. The Beast is a steel handled BBGM with no knurling and the He-Man is a steel handled BBSM with no knurling, similar to the old Ironman grippers:

---------------------------------kgs-------lbs

Retro Beast -----------------70.25-----155

Retro He-Man ----------------61-------134

They feel harder though because they’re heavy and slicker than cat $#!T on a linoleum floor.

The two cal rigs gave the same results, but Chris' is MUCH easier to use (I strongly suspect beer featured heavily in the welding process of Dave's :tongue ).

How is Mikael's different? Just curious.

I'll post a couple pictures and an explanation when I get a chance (probably tomorrow).

Thanks for doing the calibrations, I was very close with my squeeze estimates too. I knew one of those #3s was easy.

Hey everyone,calibrated my grippers the other day and thought I would post the results.Some seem kinda light but all weights used were calibrated on a postal scale.All calibrations were done by Brendan Dwyer and myself.I tried to round the ounces off,but I am no math genius.

CoC gr8 #1.5=91 lbs 7.5 oz./91.5lbs.

CoC gr8 #2 =105lbs .85oz/ 105lbs.

CoC gr8#2.5=127lbs 10.7oz./127.6 lbs.

CoC pre-gr8#3=141lbs 12oz./141.75lbs.

Double stamp,no CoC engraving,black spring.

No idea how old it is.

BBM = 116 lbs 11.2oz./116.7lbs.

BBSM = 133 lbs. 1oz./133 lbs.

BBGM = 136 lbs 11.7 oz./ 136.7 lbs.

RB 180=113 lbs. 1.2 oz./113lbs.

Does anybody have any idea how old that #3 might be??

2002 it looks like.

The only ones that seem a little light are the #3 and the GM but they still seem to be in a semi-acceptable range, nothing to suspect wrong calibration.

Thanks for that link Derek,definitely a 2002 #3 according to that chart.

Thanks for posting the results of his grippers. Would any of these happen to be the Euro calibrated grippers? I'm dying to know what a Euro-rated 3.38 (for example) calibrates at in pounds. Or any of the 3.0 and up Euro-rated grippers.

Yes Ben, several of them have been used in the LGC competition and the European Championship.

Hard BBE - 3.47

Medium BBE - 3.38

Easy BBE - 3.22

IM #3 2002 - 3.03

IM #3 single stamped - 2.87

Interestingly, my elaborate (bordering on madness) calibration method indicated that the hard BBE is 8 per cent harder than the easy BBE. Lee is getting exactly the same relative difference. The numbers from Lee's calibration seem to reflect actual effort required to close them with the exception that the difference in difficulty between the 140 and 143 lbs #3's is a little bit greater than implied by the poundage numbers. The sweep is considerably easier on the 140lbs gripper. By the way, I certified on the girly 140lbs gripper with a MM set back in 2000 or thereabouts.

PS. I have just bought 2 brand new #3:s and 2 brand new 3,5:s and i am calibrating those out of the package today or tomorow, ill put those numbers up to...

The whole thing took about two huers and was preaty fun to do...
