Arne's #3 (rated to 3.0 by Mikael) which calibrated at 143,84 lbs

Mine MM2 Replica (rated to 3.14 by Mikael) which calibrated at 140,95

something wrong here??

the 3.0 gripper sounds harder than the 3.14 ...

Nope! According to the RGC so is the harder gripper (MM2 repl.) easier then the #3 (which is easier).

Everything is in order (well in the RGC world).

Martin, are you saying the MM2 replica was put in an RGC and arrived at the poundage of 140.95lbs? That doesn't seem possible for a BBE spring to go that low no matter the mounting.

Yes, I've checked it several times.

Is it mounted 3/16"? Just doesnt make sense is all. The real MM2 is much harder than 140.. going by feel of course.. I cant guarantee it becuase im going by feel but it felt harder than my 160 #3.. And isnt a 3.14 rating about 158 RGC??

Can't remember the exact measurements, when I ordered a bunch of replicas I used the specs that I found on this forum.

I'm starting to feel that I'm just repeating myself all the time about this... :happy

Real MM2/replica, grippers still vary, even if they are custom made. The calibrations mentioned above regarding Arne's #3 (3.0) and mine MM2 replica (3.14) are calibrated by Mikael Siversson. He developed a rather sophisticated calibration system, and these calibrations are done by feel. With this method all characteristics is included (a.k.a. how hard the gripper feels), while the only thing the RGC does is to show how much weight that is needed to make the handles touch.

Don't count on the real MM2 being anywhere near 140lb. I would say the MM1 was 160lb.

What do people think about ranking a calibrated, filed gripper?

I have recently been filing the crap out of my double-filed BBSM. The set and sweep remains normal for a BBSM, which is a strength level that is very managable for me. So as I file it away, only the crush at that last little bit gets any harder. The calibration at the close is going up, but it's almost like closing a gripper in a choker because the set and sweep are (basically) out of the equation. Just thinking out loud :)

Funny, Matt, cuz I was thinking about the exact same thing. However, I think if a filed and non-filed gripper pull the same calibration, the filed one should rank higher, because even though the sweep on it may be out of the question, the person who can handle, say, 155lb on a normal gripper may not be able to handle 155lb (after filing) BTR, regardless of the sweep. For instance, my 300 cal'd 160 and Luke's 300 cal'd 160 after being filed (well, you know that, you calibrated Luke's :D ). I can close mine, but, even though they're the same poundage, I doubt I could close Luke's, because I really don't think I could handle 160lb BTR.
