Anyone know the fastest time from no grip training I mean not even being able to close the Trainer to being able to close the #2 and then the #3. Asking out of curiosity more then anything.

This may be a huge speculation on my part, but I think everyone who has closed a #3 could close a trainer when they started training grip.  As far as time to achievment goes, I believe that John Brookfield went from not being able to fully close a #1 to closing a silver crush #3 in about a years time.  And Ken Brown closed a #3 the first time he ever tried.  Heath Sexton made some pretty impressive gains in a years time as well.  There are probably many others I am leaving out here.

You know, this is a good question.  As for me, I could close the Trainer and the #1 the very first time I ever touched the grippers.  As far as I know, there has been no one who could NOT close the Trainer go on to close the #3 (I hope I'm wrong on this).  I think Kinney couldn't close the #1 the first time he tried it.

I hope you're wrong also Snott, it took me a week of negatives to close the trainer.  Since it was brought up though I am curious, of all you #3 closers out there did any of you fail with the trainer when you got it out of the box?

Dyoder this could be a tough question to answer..Im not sure of your age so lets assume that someone tried the trainer at say 15 and couldnt get it I wouldnt think that they would never be able to close the 3..alot of the guys who are closing the the 1 and 2 out of the box are usually older with somekind of strenght training,,or at least some years of manual labor.I took a week to close the coc2 but I have been doing some hand exercises for years,,not directly with grippers but hand strength all the same..Its all about determination,so dont be afraid of what hasnt been done yet,,someone has to be the first..

                  good luck      Joe

Hmm, interesting thanks alot..

Dyoder, don't let Snott intimidate you with that, just take it as a challenge to do it, since so far we know of nobody.

for what its worth i doubt anyone who cant shut the #1 out of the bag will reach the #3

But dont let that stop you

And dont forget there are more grip lifts than just the gripper!! :)

Just curious, but what makes you think that?

That is such a baseless statement. Kinda like saying nobody with a club foot could ever squat over 300lbs.

Not at all mate

its based on personal experience

ive been traiing the grippers for 6 years and im 2cm off closing Dave's #2

I took me 18 months to shut the trainer and another 12 months after that to shut my #1

Ive seen blokes shut the #3 after less than a years training and they can all shut the #1 out of the bag

Common sense.

But just cos i probibly wont get the #3 im not giving up!!!!  and why shouldnt a man with a club foot be one of the greatest lifters of all time (Hepburn).

But saying that, there are men with club feet who cant squat 300lbs.

see what i mean

Good luck :)

Let's make it alittle interesting here. Now I am not normally a betting man, but let's say someone who cannot close the trainer starts dedicated grip training. How far do you think they can go in one year??

what one years specialised grippER training from scratch?

Faz

Just an observation mate.  I recon you'll get the #3 within 6 months of specialisation and strapholds

If they are close to closing the trainer when they start training, with proper positioning they will close that gripper.  Also If that is their baseline, I'd say they could reasonabley close an average or easy #2 in a year's time if they train really hard

Another factor to consider in the grand scheme of things is a person's responsiveness to training.  You have to consider that some people who aren't geneticaly strong at all are very responsive to training and will get stronger quicker than a less responsive person of the same baseline strength.  In an untrained person this is impossible to initially assess.  All I do know is that every person does have some approximate limit to where they will get no stronger.  This is true for grip, however Ironmind could not have reasonably created this limit with two pieces of metal and a spring.  You'll never know how far you can ultimately get unless you train relentlessly--and then maybe someday you may reach your potential.  I believe everyone's grip potential is far greater than we could imagine.  Consider this, a baby can support its own weight with one hand as soon as it is born, yet doesn't have the leg strength to support its weight with both legs.  Think about that.

My own personal opinion 90% of all non disabled men could eventually close a #3 if they really put there mind to it.   (Likely a higher percentage than could initially close the trainer)

Scott,not shure,but i think Mr.Brookfield,could not close the

coc 1*,1st time he tried,and yet he went,arguably to a 4*,

hope i am like him.

How are doing with the grippers at the moment Gazza?  You can obviously close the #1 as you will performing this feat in the up coming grip comp.  How's it going with the #2.  Do you have the #3 in your sights? You seemed to do well at the nail bending comp earlier this year.

As for the nail bendingHello Jim,

Yes i can close the coc 1*,have also got a pda sos grippers,a

266,and a 297,which i can close on a good day,not consistently yet,depends on what other grip work i do.My coc

2*is harder than my sos 297,i am about 1/4,away from the 2*.

As for the nail bending, ithink that once i kinked it on the knee,i had  it with upper body strength, iwill train on this till i can get it unbraced.Have had a few problems of late, carpel tunnel in the left wrist, severe tendinitis right elbow,so have had to back of on poundages and volume, looking forward to the comp, would probably be better off in the novices and not the inters,as my poundages suck at the moment, but hay im

a grip baby,so lots of good years ahead of me.Hope your gonna give the old man a run for his money and alsoMr Gardener,as we cannot have a southener, takeing are glory, just wish i was up to giving mr Gardener a bit of competition myself, never mind, one day i will pinch, the old

codgers walking stick.

Gazza, I think I read that, somewhere, about Brookfield. But, that was the old silver spring 1. It was I'm guessing about like a weak modern 2. I had two. Both of them have broken. I do remember when I got a new 1, I was shocked how easy it was. I now call it my 1.5, because it is a lot tougher than my newest 1.

apdwler,

Obviously Mr Brookfield,is a little bit special,i just thought that,if it was anormal 1*,that he had closed, and then to close

a 4,with a slite steddy of the other hand, then he could be used,as an example of how far one can go,i dont no if he went from 1 to4in a year though, and admitedly we are all not mr Brookfield.

Very true Riotgrip, I'm just interested finding those ways to produce results in other. Everyone has thier own "groove" if you will for training and what they respond to. Some excel fast but, stall out for a longer period while other are slow and steady. Obviously there are endless amounts inbetween.

I did not close the Trainer out of the box.

It took 2 weeks.

I could barely get the #1 to half.

Closed it after about a month.

I have a #2 I can close to half.

I will close it within a year.

I am small.

I will close the #3 some day.

Common sense is overrated.
