Right Hand:

Strapholds w/ BB Master - 7.5lbs x 10sec. x 3

I think I may add a little variety to my straphold work. As you may have read in one of my previous posts, I use a plain old lifting strap for my straphold work.

The other day I took my other strap that I don't use and folded it to create the thickness of 4 straps together and tied a rubber band around it. Using this thickness for strapholds might assist with the sweep of a tougher gripper. I also plan on making a strap that is 8 strap widths thick.

As you probably know, this is hardly an original idea. I just took the ideas of others and came up with an inexpensive alternative.

Matt,

Did you see the idea from someone about using a metal ruler for strap holds? 99 cents at Staples, and it is murderous. I have been using it for a few weeks. I like the idea of varying widths by folding the strap. My SOS343 is stuck at 1/4". Maybe I'll start trying thick strapholds with it. Variety is good, yes!?!

  • 4 weeks later...

-Wednesday February 19, 2003-

I took two weeks off from the grippers and boy, did I notice a decrease in strength. :( So much a decrease that I'm not going to post my workout this week. But, next week, I will start lighter with the strapholds and probably start doing them twice a week.

Matt,

Your training seemed to going along fine...can I ask why you took a two week hiatus???

I've been kicking myself the last little while for not trying strapholds until recently.

Jonathan,

I took a week off from my normal lifting so I decided to do the same for the grippers. The second week I did plier lifts instead. They're not quite the same as strapholds. :blush

Just as a side note. I recently ordered the Close the Gap Straps from Ironmind just for the hell of it.

Matt,

You've mentioned using thicker straps...have you tried a chunky strap with your #3? I'm miles away from closing my #3 but I've been thinking of doing strap holds with a strap wide enough that my pathetic close can hold. Work up to a given weight in this strap, then use a slightly thinner strap and work up to the same strap weight, etc. Is this what you had in mind using your thick straps?

Jon@han,

It is what I've had in mind. But, actually, I think the #3 is a little too hard at this point. Maybe I'll use my double-stamped #2 with the thick straps. I've just received my Close the Gap straps from Ironmind and they are nice.

Left Hand:

Strapholds w/ double-stamped #1* - 15lbs. x 10sec. x 2 sets, 6sec. x 1 set

Right Hand:

Strapholds w/ single-stamped #2* - 15lbs. x 10sec. x 1 set, 7sec. x 1 set, 6sec. x 1 set

*From this point on, I'll be using my new Close the Gap Straps from Ironmind. I've noticed that they are a little more "slippery" than the regular lifting straps that I've been using previously.

Matt,

How much do you figure you have to put on your strap holds with your #2 before you can shut the #3??

Keep it up :cool

With the thick strap, who knows? With the thinner strap, maybe about 20lbs.

From experience-when I was doing grippers 3 days a week-2 days of holds and one day of strap holds with a filed down #2-I worked up to OVER 35 pounds :blink:blink on a 2mm strap. And-I still couldnt dominate the #3!

Now That I am certified and I am chasing bigger grippers down-I am doing strap holds with 10 pounds and my PDA 387.

It was too the point that my shoulder gave before my grip with strap holds with the #2.
