Matt's training

I've decided to post some of my grip training sessions.  There are two reasons for this.  One is the possibility that someone else can learn along with me.  And the second reason is that my motivation might be higher if everyone can see what I'm doing.

The training I'll be showing is mostly my training on the grippers although, on occassion, I might include some of my other grip training.  In addition to the grippers, I do pinch lifting, thick-bar lifting, finger lifting, wrist rolling and levering, extensor work and the farmer's walk.  My training does vary from time to time.

My hands were in pain after this workout.  I'm thinking about skipping next weeks gripper session and resuming the following week.  If I don't post next week, you'll hear from me in 2 weeks.  Until then, train hard!

I know I said last week that I wouldn't train the grippers this week, but I couldn't help it, I'm addicted!

Once again, my hands were in pain.  So, I think I might cut back the frequency of gripper training to about once every ten days instead of once a week.  So the next time I do the grippers will probably be August 6th.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but I'm following a Kevin Fulton-type program.  I just keep adding volume to a certain gripper and then move up to the next gripper once I reach a certain # of reps.

Once a week currently, and I was thinking of training even less frequently.  The reason I'm thinking of training the grippers less frequently is because my hands get really sore during and after my sessions.  Kevin Fulton also recommends gripper training once every 6-8 days and I'm following a similar program to his.

I also do other grip work during the rest of the week, so my hands are getting other work.

My hands felt a lot better today.  Maybe the extra reps on my warmup sets helped a little.  Who knows?  I'm progressing so fast that I'm amazing myself.  I plan on closing my DOUBLE-STAMPED #3 by the end of this year.  Maybe my goals are set a bit high, but the way I'm progressing I think it may be a possibility!  I'll be back next week!

*This is the first time I've ever tried strapholds...and I love them!  It seems my progress is slowing down with my current method, so I've decided to try something different.

For strapholds, I use my Ironmind Loading Pin plus a strap.  For the strap, I just bought a pair of lifting straps from a sporting goods store for about $3, and I loop the carabiner through the strap and hook on the loading pin.

What I plan on doing is adding a tiny bit of weight each workout and only holding the weight for a second or two.  Till next workout....I can't wait :D

Basically, all I was doing with the Supergripper was a "burnout" at the end of my normal gripper work.  My hands were already sore when I tackled the Supergripper and the Supergripper made them even more sore.  So, for now, I've decided to layoff the Supergripper for awhile.  Nothing against it.  It's just that I want to close the #3 and the other grippers will help me do that faster. :)

I see from you workouts, that you not working with "hard grippers". Do you think that not necessary each workout "feel" hard gripper (#3 for you).

I still try to close #2(double stamped), and have some sticking point, about 3mm to touch. Today I ordered #3.I will try negatives to additions to #2 negatives and strap holds with #1(one stamped).

I don't think that it is necessary to work with a harder gripper.  As long as you are making progress with the gripper you are working with, the harder gripper will become easier. :)
