  • 3 weeks later...

This contest (discussed and viewed ad nauseam under "California Contest?") is going to be one of the most interesting contests I have ever heard of for any sport.

Having Odd Haugen in a grip contest with local grip guys is like Lance Armstrong entering a local run and bike biathlon. The curiousity factor alone should be worth charging admission.

Hubgeezer, thanks for the report on the first four events. Looking forward to seeing the rest. Thor was the surprise leader after four events. 1st. was Grippers for maximum close. Kevin Meskew should be credited for offering an interesting variation--contestants had three options they could use on any gripper of their choice: a no set, a credit card, or a parallel grip--think there were about 10 grippers to pick from. Harder's Tables were used to score--so differentiated scoring--obviously a no set close with the same gripper outscores a credit card close which in turn outscores a parallel close. This first event was won by Bussi--no surprise; Hubgeezer took a surprise third with a 2.7 no set close.

RT--Hubgeezer only 5th with 197--that's a pretty high standard. Odd won with 252.

Vbar won by Ryan Klein with 386--Ryan came all the way from Vegas to compete. Geezer PRed with 321.

Hub won by Thor with 80.5. Odd & Hubgeezer tied for second with 73. This is the first time Odd ever tried this event so did quite well because there's quite a bit of technique to be learned in this event.

Hope I got all the details right. I'm sure IronWarrior or HubGeezer will write a more complete report after some r & r. Congratulations to all 10 of the entrants--sounded over the phone like they were really having a blast.

Hey ronnie the stats are a little off i got a 2.7 ns, the same as hub i only won by body weight.

That means that Adam was still in 4th place, and it does not change the standings. However, it gives him 16 more points, and it means that there was only 11 points separating 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place. That is amazing, literally a statistical tie. The 3rd or 4th place finisher doing just a few pounds more on any event would have moved them to 2nd place.

Or, for that matter, Odd, on his second attempt on the wrist roll, had he done it one second slower than he did, would have ended up in 4th place.

How close it was, as I said, simply amazing.

There is one other technical flaw on the results. On the wrist roller, Odd's points are listed correctly, but there is a typo on the time. I think it is supposed to be 5.97 seconds, not 8.97 seconds. I am positive that he broke 6 seconds, so I suspect it was just typed in wrong.

Congratulations to the first 4 finishers for an extremely close contest!

Welcome to the new people, it was great having 11 competitors.

Ronnie, we are going to get pictures and video? Awesome! We don't usually get those on the Gripboard!

Mike

Congratulations to all on a good contest. I do want to set the record straight on one point. My (Dale Harder's) points were used for the Grippers, Rolling Thunder, and Hub Lifts. My Vertical Bar tables couldn't be used because they were devised back when the hook grip was legal and Jim Wylie GBR did at least 535 lb with a hook grip. After looking at the point awards I must agree with Hubgeezer--Odd must have done the wrist roller in about 5.97 seconds not 8.97 seconds--that opinion is based on the fact that he was awarded 773 points. Kevin, keep putting on those contests--Hubgeezer really enjoyed them. Cheers. :cool

WOOOOH! FIRST PLACE IN THE SUB 200's!!! Hooray for me!!! :mosher:rock oh and I checked my records, a couple people asked me how I was doing as far as PRs are concerned and I managed only two this time around (V-bar and hub). But anticipate another 9 when the decathlon roles around! I want a medal, I don't care what I medal in, but i want a medal!

BTW Nice work everyone! I know I had a great time and It's always fun losing gracefully to you all. And a big thanks to Kevin for putting this whole shindig on! Although the strongman vid wasn't as captivating this time around... somehow I remember it ending differently before.
