My Vote For The Toughest Deck Of Cards

I tried a deck of Bees last week for the first time in several months, and to my delight I was actually able to perform a quick, clean tear for the first time. So today I bought a deck of Vegas brand playing cards and to my not so delightful surprise couldn't even get an initial tear through all the cards. They weren't movin'. I'm far from proficient at cards, but I've torn nearly twenty different brands (including the Malaysian Dolphins) and find these Vegas cards to be the hardest by far. Anyone find any decks more difficult?

The Bicycles are definitely tough, but these are even tougher.

But what casino were they from? I just remembered I brought a couple decks back from the MGM that I need to flail all over on...

The brand is Vegas. They're made by the company that makes the VIP brand, and can be purchased for $1.79 at Wal Mart. They have a hard, plasticky feel.

This is a TOPIC I post last year regrading

CARD DIFFICULTY PROGRESSION LIST

Okay based on our data collected by those few that have contributed anything to this effort I want to thank you for you time and efforts. This a list I have put together from the experience of others and myself so far.

Paper Cheapos (no plastic coating)- Hard to find anymore so don’t bother

Trumps - easy, good trainers - buy at Walmart

Gold Crown -2 for a dollar best place to start for a beginner....

Made in china 2 pack from Dollar Tree

Older Mavericks - very good deck, difficult, but not too hard - buy at Dollar store

VIP - good deck, solid tear ALL the way through, good grip - buy at Wal-Mart

Champions - good deck, a little slippery, solid tear - buy at Dollar store

Aviators - tough deck, not too slippery, hard throughout

Hoyle Playing cards (what they say on box)

Bicycle rider back cards – Difficulty considered high medium

New Mavericks - freaking tough, hard to start - very slippery - Dollar Store or Wal-Mart

Bicycles - buy pretty much anywhere - tough deck - expensive

Gemaco casino cards - used

Bees- no.92 - buy pretty much anywhere - tough deck - expensive

Malaysian Dolphins – Cards have three-ply construction with plastic in between the paper - very tough tear – Dollar Tree

Eric you are now proposing that these VEGAS brand cards may be the caboos to this crazy card tearing train?

To anyone else out there PLEASE Feel Free to add to or give your opinions of any card progression adjustments especially for those cards that I do not have listed that you may have tried.

The more participation in this the better it will be for all those who like to destroy perfectly good decks of cards for fun.

THANKS FOR SHARING WITH US ERIC

Maybe the Malaysian made "Dolphins" vary, but the several decks I tore were easier than the Rider Back Bicyles. But yes, the Vegas cards should top the list, unless someone can correct me on this.

Also, I've only come across the "Rider Back" variety of Bikes. What's this variety that's tougher? It's not just a matter of the total number of cards in the deck, is it?

I have not ripped all these decks myself. I took the recommendations I received from other CARD TERRORS out there and placed them in the list based on their input.

Older Mavericks

Aviators

Bicycles

Malaysian Dolphins you sent me Eric

I do have a question for others out there in regards to the MALAYSIAN DOLPHINS which has a dolphin on the actual card. I ripped some and then someone said there was two different kinds one with a cartoon gladiator as the joker and another?

I have recently bought some decks that have the same Dolphin picture design on the box but when I open them up they have another card back design and the jokers (1 in color & 1 in BW) are a fish in clown shoes and hat juggling the suit symbols.

Anyone have a clue about this or a difficulty rating?

Lastly I have these made in china dollar tree cards with a back cover desihn of circles with two direction diagonal line and a straight line going into the diagonal lines?

I never gave much thought about the possibility of not using the Jokers, Rule Card or Sales Card that is in many decks. I have always ripped what ever fell out of the box and called that a deck (not leaving any in the box of course)

My most difficult challenge is the Mini-Decks man are these HARD! I figure it has much less to do with card material and coating than their small size limiting the space to clench the deck.

I think Dollar Tree has at least three types of cards that come in 2 packs for a dollar:

Made in China (2 jokers, no rules card)

Large Print playing cards (4 jokers, no rules card)

Poker Size playing cards (4 jokers, no rules card)

I think Made in China is the easiest. I forget the comparison between the other two. I think all three have the same design that you describe on the back.

When I was tearing often, the hardest decks I ever tore were the casino cards with the hole drilled in the middle. These were from a casino here in Kansas.

Yes i like the mini decks. They make you work. There is just so little to hold onto.

Do they get easier or harder after wear from playing cards with them? I'd assume easier, since the friction would go up as the surface gets worn. But the edges also lose their crispness, which could go either way.

The malaysian cards vary a lot, Ive got one deck that I simply cannot get thru, and have tore others that rate about bike in toughness. The ones with the gladiators on them seem to be the same as the ones with a dolphin on them.... There are a couple differnt kinds of bikes out there, cant remember what writing is on the box but in my independent studies :tongue the rider backs are the easiest of the bikes.....Walmart carries the different bikes but you may have to go to the birthday crap isle to find them.....And to me the mavericks from walmart are tougher than the bikes due to slippiness, despite only costing a buck a pack...Brett

I just left school and walked over to the conveinence store across the street to buy cards. I was delighted to see that the had Bee No.92 playing cards along with the Champions that they usually have. I came back in school and put my oven mitts on (I had them to show my friend a deck tear in oven mitts). I quartered the Champions and was pretty happy. Then, took the Bees out. I was going to just tear them, but deciced to try tocorner them. To my suprise I did it. How hard are these 2 feats?

Champions are pretty easy cards, quartering them still seems a good bit easier than a full deck of good plastic coated cards. You likely had some old or knockoff Bees. Real, fresh 92 Bees are very stout cards, not likely to give up a corner easily.

I also thought the Malaysian cards never lived up to the hype, and definitely easier than Bikes. I haven't tried the Vegas brand as yet, but plan to after hearing about them. I'm looking forward to it.

Hey Pat.

I'm pretty sure they aren't knockoffs. They were wrapped up just like any other Bees I've seen and they had a foil sticker on they back saying they were genuine. And they also had the US playing card sticker where it opens. That corner was also done in oven mitts by the way.

I'm looking at them now and it says "No 92 Club Special", if those are any different.

Tried the Vegas cards and I found them to be tougher than the bikes too, but easier than the Gemaco's. Very, very difficult to quarter...........Thanks for the heads up Eric.....Brett

I think there is some batch sensitivity, but these two brands seem to be consistently near the top. I thought the Gemaco's, while tough on the hands were easier than the Vegas....but that's just me. Both very good cards. I've also had some batches of Bikes that seemed way thicker than normal, and put both of these to shame. Cards, like grippers vary.......

Bringing up an old thread here to get a ranking on the decks of cards Ive been tearing the last couple days. They are casino cards, from various casinos(right now I have a pile of Binion's and Hardrock Cafe) the only other info I can offer is the brand is Paulson and they say made in Mexico.

Any help would be appreciated, I hope Im not tearing the equivalant of a Trainer:)

The casino cards that I got from SAMs Club have been the most difficult cards I have ever tried. I had to chalk my hands, otherwise I don't think I would ever got them.

I'll look for them, but I have a set of cards here that are freaking plastic. Not plastic coated - they are plastic - almost like linoleum or some crazy stuff. I tried and tried and could not get an initial tear.` I need to unburry them and let you guys know what to look for.
