With a little bit of practice you won't need any new cords. You can use one hand to seady the ball, with the exposed rotor facing up, and use your fingers to flick the rotor started.

I am assuming that Michaels sells cord that is suitable for use as a powerball pull cord? Do you know what they call this cord?

i start it with my thumb.

You could also start it by striking it down from your elbow to your hand, the underside (non hairy) part while pulling your arm away at the same time. works like a charm.
