David Horne - Q Re Bearhug Deadlift

Ian,

For the bearhug deadlift all the middle discs have to be of the same dimensions ie.20k discs, 15k discs, etc. and all of metal composition, not rubber.

These discs are held together by a rod and fastened tightly by a collar at each end (no gaps are allowed between discs). This row of discs have to be lifted from the floor and not from a raised platform enabling your hands to go under.

Straddle the row of discs with your hands as far down each side as possible.

You lift by squeezing inwards with the strength of your hands and forearms against the round sides.

Now lift the weight up - the lift finishes on the refereescommand when the centre rod is above the height of the middle of your knee. You do not have to stand erect, or have your legs locked. The weight has to be lowered under control to the floor. Maximum height of discs 18".

In the Iron Grip records list Nick McKinless has the largest lift of 163k, though I believe he has done a little more.

This lift seems almost identical to how one would lift the Atlas stones in the strongman arena.  Do I have the correct picture in my head?
