Guest woody36
Nearly a month ago i did what was probably my best bend to date, which was 2 pieces of 6"x1/4"diameter steel taped together, one CR and one HR.At this time my bending seemed to be improving with every workout,i then caught a bug and since then everything has gone downhill fast and i haven't had any strength to bend a thing. It may sound silly but i began to doubt i would be able to bend again, this was laid to rest just now because i managed to bend 2, 7-1/2"x 1/4" pieces taped together as a break-in. Anyone else gone through this? Should things like steelbending be done in cycles like other forms of training?
Tom Black
Woody, I’ve gone through what you have many times. I’ve had many lows and highs, I think I follow a natural cycle. Since the chance for injury is high I have found it is not effective to plan a cycle like in powerlifting. I have found if I do this I’ll push to do what I planned 6 weeks before, but end up hurting myself because it just wasn’t appropriate on that particular day. Quoting Joe Wieder (which I don’t do often) I’d say this is “instinctive” training. Catching a bug of course is a minor setback that will not hurt your overall bending progress. In fact, the forced rest probably will help heal your hands. I have found that when I lay off sometimes I find built up soreness that presents itself over a week after my last workout. I’ve had the feeling many times like I couldn’t bend, it is a mental illusion, be positive and once a bender, always a bender. Now please excuse me for I am going to attempt to bend a wrench today (albeit a small one).
