"c" Collar's

I'm looking to make a collar that will hold a gripper at parallel. There's a similar tool on the market but I'm thinking this could be done with just a simple flat piece of metal shaped like a "C"

Has anybody made one of these before?

I just use a washer with a 2" diameter hole. The downside is it scuffs up the knurling at the top of the gripper and has to be held in place by the other hand.

I use a 2" diamter pipe nipple. Same knurling problems that scot talked about. This makes me feel more secure that it will not fly off than a hose clamp or washer would. The drawback is that unless you have it marked, you can easily forget which one is the dogleg if you set it down.
