Galvanized Nails

I just picked up some new stock at Lowe's, got some 60d nails that are galvanized, that is all they had. Also some 6" timber ties that are also galvanized. Is that typical of what people bend, or is there a type that is not galvanized available?

There is common shiny/un-galvanized stock of both. Home Depot here always has the shiny 60Ds, maybe try them in your area. Ace usually has a better selection, as do most smaller hardware stores. With the nails there is a great variance in strength among types and brands, and sometimes even within the same batch. I have tried 60Ds that felt as hard as an IM blue, and some as hard as a red. Only one way to find out how hard a nail is, good luck.

The galvanized nails are a good warmup nail for most benders with some experience. I like using them for that purpose as well as bending several at once. The shiny 60 D's are harder to find I believe.
