12/04/04 Cross Country Kettlebell Meet

Tun Tavern 1775

Recommended Posts

On Saturday, December 4, 2004, the North American Kettlebell Federation will be hosting the first annual Cross Country Kettlebell Meet. The classic kettlebell lifts will be contested:

Traditional: Short Cycle Clean and Jerk with two kettlebells. Snatch with one kettlebell, one switch of the sides allowed.

Long Cycle: Long Cycle Clean and Jerk with two kettlebells.

This is an endurance contest, and ten minute limits are set on the sets. Once the set begins, the bells may not be set down. No American has yet to finish a full ten minute set with the 32kg kettlebells, in either the two Traditional events, or the Long Cycle event.

As a point of reference, Bud Jeffries did 17 reps with two, 32kg kettlebells in a Florida Long Cycle event last year. Last week, a U.S. Border Patrol Agent got 30 reps with the same weight, and that is our new American record for the Long Cycle (he is under 90kg bodyweight). To obtain the title of "Master of Sports" in the former Soviet states (the birthplace of these sports), you must get 65 reps for heavyweights (above 90kg). To obtain "Master of Sports, World Level", you would need to get 85 reps. All within a ten minute timeframe.

I thought that members from the Gripboard community might be interested in checking out the event, if convenient for you to do so, since many of you are familiar with kettlebell training. If interested, let me know via the PM feature or within this thread, and I'll provide the details for the location that you wish to check out.
