Jason Paul
I do a little pinch grip work with plate pinches. I don't think I really know what I'm doing, but I figure being a beginner at this, I'm bound to make some progress as long as I don't do anything stupid. Well, now I'd like to know I'm doing plate pinches effectively. What I've been doing is holding two plates together, smooth sides out, for time. I'm only using two 10 pound plates, but I've held them for up to a minute and a half, which seems a little long. My question is: What is the normal amount of time to hold a plate pinch? Am I better off using more weight and only holding for 30 seconds or so? Do you go as low as 10-15 seconds? How long? Thanks, Jason
bseedot
Hi Jason- It's really a question of personal preference. Generally, longer durations will build more endurance and shorter durations will build more strength. I pinch for 10 second holds and add weight when I reach 10 seconds. 1.5 minutes is a bit long for my tastes, but if you're happy with it, then you're doing it the right way. BC.
