If the staff at the local post office are not too grumpy, this would be a quick and relatively pain-free way of doing it (in addition to give the Diesel Crew a good workout). It would also produce a very high resolution result. Once it is done, there is obviously no need to do it again. It does however require quite a bit of an effort by the organizers as they would need to weigh some 600lbs of weights (for the v-bar and pinch). A piece of cardboard would protect the surface of the scale.

Mikael,

What if, however, the weighed 1 of each plate (45, 35, 25, 10, 5, 1), recorded the weight, then checked the weight on a regular bathroom scale and the weight matched the post office?

Mikael,

What if, however, the weighed 1 of each plate (45, 35, 25, 10, 5, 1), recorded the weight, then checked the weight on a regular bathroom scale and the weight matched the post office?

That could work, provided the bathroom scale is consistently showing the same reading for the same stack of weights, has a sufficient resolution and is also showing a predictable, or rather repeatable, reading for any selection of weights less than the nominal 121lbs.

I look forward to seeing if there is a new wr or not

My best guess would be that it is, simply because the reading of the scale indicated a weight some 1.5k above Jim's WR. Anyway we have to be sure about these things.

In the Euro competition we added a safety margin. At an idicated 150k the whole set up actually weighs a calibrated 151.2k.

I am waiting for the results of the calibration of the GGC weights to be formally announced.

I will update the list as soon as this is posted.

One quick note, Mikael. Number 11 is Scott George, not George Scott as you have. Everything else looks very good.

Does not look good Mobster. Your top 10 position will probably not survive the revised calibrated figure for your 2004 GGC performance. In fact I suspect you will end up right next to me in the list. :kiss

Cherish that moment as long as you can, which would be about until the end of February.

Looks like the USA has now more people in the top 50 than all the other nations combined.

My left hand isn't listed. Is it best right or left?

It is the strongest hand. Only one entry per competitor.

Updated with Gerrit Reubold, Germany, 128.2k uncalibrated from the 2005 German Championship. Burkhard Macht pulled an uncalibrated 133.2k but I have kept his calibrated 132.5k from the 2005 Euro as his best effort. More often than not, plates weigh less than their nominal value.

From 2006 onwards I will not include any new results based on uncalibrated plates.

For new organisers of competitions (using the Euro standard pinch and v-bar), please be prepared for me asking for place and method of calibration, e.g., Mosman Park Post office. If a non-certified scale is used I need to know the brand and the type of certified plates used to calibrate the scale. Jedd Johnson provided me with a list of the calibrated weights of all plates used for the v-bar in the 2005 GGC competition. This should be mandatory IMO.

When Arne Persson and I introduced the LGC competition we weighed the plates from the very start. Keeping track of records become, shall we say, pointless if we don't know how much the plates weigh.

Hello Mikael!

In the last NGC Nerikes grip championship Johan Albrektsson pulled 151,5 kg Dickey Oscarsson pulled 121,5 and myself 136.5 in V-bar (LGC replica)! Calibrated by an electronic scale usually used for track&fieldThequote=Mikael Siversson,Nov 15 2005, 07:10 AM]

Hello Mikael!

In the last NGC Nerikes grip championship Johan Albrektsson pulled 151,5 kg Dickey Oscarsson pulled 121,5 and myself 136.5 in V-bar (LGC replica)! Calibrated by an electronic scale usually used for track&field.

Jörgen, is the electronic scale certified and if so by whom? A scale used for sport events is no better for record lifts than a bathroom scale bought in a supermarket if it is not certified. Scales at a post office are certified and likewise scales used in supermarkets are certified on a regular basis.

Moreover, I have no objections against the general arrangement of your last competition (after all the starting field included one of the best Swedes; Johan Albrektsson) but having only three competitors is stretching it a bit. Should we recognize world and national records with three or perhaps even two competitors? In my view this is not enough. Someone suggested five as a minimum which seems more reasonable than only three.
