Back on the GripBoard Got my doctorate in Physical Therapy. Practicing Physical Therapy in northern Minnesota, outpatient orthopedics, for about a year now. Realizing I'm in the worst shape of my life; on my feet all day, very sedentary at home. My spinal fracture is ok, though it flares up a few times a year. I realize it hurt less when I was more active. My bad shoulder is starting to hurt again, probably due to inactivity. On the other hand, my chronic ankle instability was cured and reversed with barefoot running, and I'm quite happy with that. Thoracic spine pain is at a life-time high, probably again due to inactivity. I stretch and do my PT daily, and it feels great. I'm only lifting once a week, very light (HIT cardio, triple-extension, and heavy core, mostly). Playing with grippers a few days a week (just #2.5 as a max). Trying to do squats in my home-gym. Something drew me back to the GripBoard, and I re-read my story in my profile. I realized how fit and strong I have been in the past, and how happy I was during those moments. I also realized how much enthusiasm I had about becoming a PT. Now, I'm realizing how many hurdles I have (excuses) to get to a quality gym, and that I need to take the plunge and get a real home-gym set up. My squat-rack with rings and a cheap bar is nice, but it mostly just forces me to go to the gym. Getting a bench, this evening probably. Getting a Rogue Ohio bar, this evening probably. (The crap-bar I have with the nylon bushing is embarrassing, feels like it will break) I am going to start a slow progression through 5x5s, the exact same way I did in 2007 to rehabilitate my back injury. Bench, Row, Press, DL, and Squat. (Curls, Crushers, Triple-Extension, kettle-bells, and heavy core too) God, I'm out of shape. I also have no excuses why I can't finalize my home-gym. I am sick of fighting off the wave of bros at the gym. "Yes you can squat with me; no you can't strip the bar and do curls." I would also like to cheat-close the #3.5 too. That's been a goal of mine that I've never achieved. I am fairly sure I can do it with intelligent training. An issue this time around is that I don't want to just keep adding weight to the bar, and adding calories to my belly. I need a limit. No benching over 275. No squatting over 315. Fitness is one thing, but the family history of arthritis is another. I also need to keep my weight down. I don't want to get all swol up again. It's fun, but it doesn't feel right, it takes so many calories and dedication to eating, and it's hard on the joints. I'm at 240 right now, and fat. 225 and lean would be much nicer. Though as middle-age approaches, it may be a challenge. I need to start running on off-days. The second my back is ready to run, I need to run again. I do know that lifting just to add as much meat to my traps and chest is no longer age-appropriate. Fun, but I can't get sucked into this addiction again. I'll bet I could hit a meaty 275, but I know there will be repercussions, and I'm certain it will just lead to me someday being a morbidly obese 275. It's good to be back. I miss this community. -bender, DPT I also realize I have a new set of skills, and I'd love to share them with the GripBoard. Mostly biomechanics, and rehabilitation. I have to follow the rule to never post medical advice or treat people on an individual basis, but I'd love to discuss the topics I've learned.

today was the 5th time in well over a year I did incline bench. Maxed out at 250. That's a good starting point for me. Flat bench still hurts.

I'm in a great training groove again finally. Hitting PRs often. I can't wait to hit right hand grippers and 2.5" crusher work this weekend. I'm confident if I stick to the plan, I'll be back stronger than ever.

6’ 8” tall and 298 lb. Bryan Hunsaker made short work of 100 kg on the Rolling Thunder, while competing in the Visegrip Viking Armlifting Championships at the Los Angeles FitExpo. If that weren’t enough for Hunsaker, he also sailed though the Crushed-To-Dust! Challenge at the IronMind booth. IronMind® | ©Randall J. Strossen photo I was pretty stoked about this. I'm bad at the hub, but managed to do the C2D challenge after the CoC#3 hold at the LA Fit Expo!

Just managed to close a #3 for the first time, unbraced and not in a choker. It was probably just under MMS distance, but it felt good to know that it's within my reach.

171 lbs right 156 lbs left on baseline digital hand dynamometer. 11 and 6lb increase from 3 weeks ago. Haven't tested max grippers in ahwile, been doing adjustable choker, silvis frankenstein, and silvis ext handle btr negatives, and individual finger imtugs. Had to recalibrate and check it twice, but something is working.
