  2. Chromium springs are being run! This is one of the major things that needed to happen. We went through a few samples runs to get these right. The actual Chromium gripper will run somewhere above 220 and up to 245 so that it doesn't overlap with the #4. But then I needed some with slightly different specs or it was going to be impossible to cover 210 and 220 for the Mash Monster grippers. I hope it works out.

  5. Right Hand Recovery Test 03-25-2024 Quick trip up to New York during the kids' Spring Break. One of the many fun things was this cool park/playground by our hotel. Random urge to test my right hand's recovery with this piece of playground equipment. Nor sure I was even using it properly. But the key thing is my right thumb and index finger were generally ok with this little experiment. So it seemed like a good sign.

  8. Workout 3/26/24: Deadlift (double overhand w/ straps): 177.5kg / 391lb x 1, 1, 7 A. Tempo Squats (no sleeves, no belt): 60kg x 4, 4 | 70kg x 4, 4 B. Rolling Thunder: 53.75kg x 7/hand | 52.5kg x 8/hand | 50kg x 3 sets of 8/hand | 45kg x 3 sets of 8/hand Top deadlift set means 187.5kg / 413lb x 1+ for next week. Today I was testing the waters with the tempo squats, and I kept it super light. Basically keeping a constant slow speed down and back up. These are harder to me than pause squats because even though I'm not using the stretch reflex in either one, at least I can drive hard and fast out of the hole on the pause squats to get past the sticking point. That's not the case with these. I have to consciously go slow out of the hole and through the sticking point, and it's actually really tough even at these low weights. My plan going forward with the RT is to bump the weight up modestly for the top set of 8 (on the order of 1-1.5kg) then do the same for the 6 (3/3) drop sets. Today it didn't quite pan out as I couldn't get the last rep, but we'll see how it goes next week. I'll go for 53.5. If that doesn't work, then I'll have to re-assess.

  11. That was a great video. I especially liked that the guy uses all of the equipment in training, rather than only staring at it on the wall. And the 'Iron Guide' book he made was an excellent idea as well. A similar book for grippers would be cool. @Cannon @degradated @Alex K Some people that I think would like this video.

In the summer those couple weeks I spent jackhammering and posted here was old foundation under that room. master bath we did last year on first floor and bottom pic is the pool bathroom we doing in the detached garage. I’ll post more now that things are really getting going again.

  13. And so the log begins!!! I’ll jump right to it, but please feel free to ask any background questions! For the first log post it was steel bending of course General warmup and red nail warmup Then I did my main bend for the day which was 3/8”x7” crs, in double wraps and crush pads, sent to me by @acromegaman (thanks Delmar!) It was a nice bend in about 2 1/2 minutes without rushing. It’s always fun to get a new KOAB equivalent bent, and even better when it was sent by a great KOAB bender like Delmar! Even sweeter was that I’d failed a couple of these before as they love to lock up later in the bend despite a fairly easy kink - revenge is always the sweetest!!! I was psyched from the KOAB Equivalent bend so I doubled down on the bars from friends and did a sweet medley IronMind/FBBC medley from @tkovach724 It was a tear and bend setup where the bars were wrapped up and I had to open it and bend right away which always adds to the drama! There was an Old Red Nail, New Red Nail, New Bastard and New Shiny. I used IMP’s on the IronMind bars and Benders Battlefield cordura on the FBBC bars. I bent all four in a row pretty smoothly and was happy to have done the thoughtful gift from Todd justice, hopefully!!! And that was it for the bending sesh, but it was nice to have no failed bends and a little break from nasty drill rod sweep and crush practice for ACE of O-1. Even though I wasn’t directly training the ACE materials I kept all the bends to 7” keep training ACE length. I got knocked out of the Top 5 today, but I have one 11/32” bar left to hopefully regain a top spot as the contest nears completion - fingers crossed!!

  22. Little bit of IMTUG work with the injured right hand last night while watching Brian Shaw take a tour (and do some hub lifts) with Efren Lifts' amazing vintage weights collection. Took it nice and slow. IMTUG #1 pinkie and ring for 10, middle for 10, index for 1. IMTUG #2 I did the same but that felt like plenty. Nothing crazy. Just trying to loosen things up after being splinted/bandaged for two straight weeks. Even now just sitting here it's challenging to fully make a fist with my index finger because the tendon tightened up. I have to open and close it a few times to get things moving again.

  26. Today was planned as a normal “grip aware” workout. The main part was banded double overhand RDL’s and rows (with less bands). I was going to do blobs with it too but got tricked by problem free warmups only to realize that a blister on my index finger actually was a problem once I got to any blob wide enough to be worth liftingso I switched to one handed flask for alternating reps and then a hold on each hands last rep, I’m starting to suck less at flask and like it more … coincidence I’m sure Anywasy, my coolest set was 5 reps of DOH RDLs with 230 pounds and red/green/orange bands. If it wasn’t the set I filmed for the gram I probably would’ve stopped at 4 since there was a 50% chance the bar was going to get snapped outta my hands by all the band tension on that 5th rep, but I won the coin flip and held on After the barbell & flask stuff I did some kettlebells, mostly anchor cleans and some holds in rack position and that was all she wrote … or was it!!! Later in the day I found myself staring at my RB adjustable gripper and figured a few easy reps would be harmless enough, ten minutes later I’d worked up through my pinned standards until I got bricked by my 148 nickel!!! My highest rgc close is 152 and that was for a properly prepared for session but I didn’t let reason get in the way and started hunting for a TNS pr if I couldn’t get an MMS pr. Needless to say, I’d probably still be hunting for that TNS pr now but eventually the mail arrived and there was 20 shiny unbent 1/4”x7” g2 bolts right at my door step so I did the only reasonable thing at this point and bent one barehand and all was right with the world asides from saving me from gripper fever, I’m excited to work through these g2’s to help me getting used to bolt heads and threads barehand in the hopes of smashing a Horrido 4.8 barehand cert in the future!!!

  27. Take note of the specifics: He attempted a #4 at Strong Arm Tactics. The judge allowed any set the athlete wanted and Rob got credited with the close. I don't want anyone thinking I handed him some ridiculously hard #4, and he no set it right in front of my eyes.

  29. Back to Back bending days woooooo!!!!! Main bend was a Horrido 6.5” 10.9, which is close enough to 7” with bolt head that I’m still on task for ACE training as well. The nice think about a cut 10.9 is that I can wrap to my preferred depth of 4cm without having to worry as much about snapping the threads (I wrapped my uncut 10.9 cert at 4.5cm), but the bad part is that it’s such a freaking hard bend lol!!! On two previous attempts I’ve only gotten a slight kink but this time I made a proper dent in it until getting stuck at 4 1/8”. The good news is that’s a big progress PR, the bad news is that the real hard part is still to come Getting a PR and a Fail at the same time left me a proper mix of confident and enraged so I tried my hand at the only 5/16”x7” crs sq that’s eluded me, of course since it’s hard it’s from @acromegaman This is another bar that in a couple of tries I haven’t made much of a dent in but this time I got it pretty nicely on the point and made some progress, but man it was slow going!!! It was huge hits without much to show for them but it was moving so I kept going!!! I surrendered at 4” after about 7 minutes. It was pretty stuck at that point and I was probably getting weaker too after 12 mins of max bending at this point Alas, fresh as a feature bend I think the next one of these is going down!!! Now I was no longer a mix of confident and enraged, simply enraged, so I managed to get revenge on squares and atone in blood at the same time by bending an 8mm x 7” S275 HRS SQ in 2/3 IMPs!!! It’s a DHWOG bar rated 183k at 6” so around 140k at 7”. The hrs edges aren’t so sharp but in 2/3 imps you still sure know they’re there lol, but it was a fun little bend and I quit a “winner”

  36. Reviewed some videos from this afternoon and nothing jumped out as "YouTube" worthy. Loaded up 54.0 lb (total) on the Rolling Thumber and all it got was a little air under it a couple of times. It's a fun kind of frustration because it feels like it's right there...wanting/waiting to fly off the ground. But it didn't (this time, anyway). Not very exciting to watch when you know how it ends. Lifted my half 90 blob to lockout again but the NextGen half 100 barely broke the ground (AGAIN). Although this time I did face pick it...so...yay? Finally I re-did an old "inverted 60 lb York roundhead dumbbell deadlift" video so that my thumb and fingers were nowhere near the flat part OR the lettering...but the camera battery cut out as I was walking over to weigh it. The full dumbbell thing was mildly cool...50...straight to 55...and then 60. But (a) I'll be more excited when I have a video of me lifting a York 65 or hex 65 and (b) I'm a little beat after a long day/week and simply don't feel like downloading/syncing/saving/uploading everything right now.

  38. Workout 3/21/24: Overhead press: 62.5kg / 138lb x 4 singles | 1 set of 8 Dumbbell 1.5 bench press: 70lb x 4, 4, 4, 4 (+4 straight reps) Face Pulls: 20kg x 10, 12, 12 Tricep extension, cable, straight bar: 30kg x 12, 12, 10 My forearms are really feeling the volume work from last night, so I gave them a break and didn't do the Fat Gripz curls today. Kept it short because I woke up at 4:10 this AM so I was tired, and I also had to take my oldest to gymnastics. I'm really hoping that adding a bit more volume next cycle as well as incorporating bench press will help my overhead press. It feels really stagnant right now. It's like I can reliably predict how many reps I will get at a particular weight by just reverse engineering from an estimated 77-78kg 1RM, and it's been that way for weeks now. The plan next cycle is to make my gripper day the day that I do bench press as well as overhead press accessory work.

  46. Guess I was dating myself with that one, lol Regarding the HR stuff: the main reason I use it is due to OCD - gives me many other metrics to track and improve on (calories, HR peak, HR avg (the main one), etc if I’m tired, I’ll pick some strange one like calories, or whatever, to improve upon (those workouts take a lot of time, though ) Over the few years, I challenge myself once or twice a year for a “fitness test” - highest average HR over an hour (too much of a wussie to go 90 mins lol). 162 average for an hour is my best (when I was closer to 50 vs 54) No issues doing 140s/150 avgs for an hour though, now. I’m sure it’d be much better if I was 220-240 vs 290+. Keeps me alive and yearning to keep going.

  47. Garmin watch synched to a polar chest HR strap. The optical HR on the watch (Fenix 6) is not very accurate, hence the strap. In addition, wearing a watch while doing grip and arm wrestling workouts blows, hence the chest strap. As long as the watch is fairly close (I’ve gone 20-30’ and been fine) it all stays connected. The body battery and other stuff is just garmin software hype, imo Cheapest way to do it is to buy a chest strap HR monitor (I use a polar H10) and use a free App like Polar Beat. Here’s what you’ll see on that one.

I like that because I can start loosening my finger and thumb back up after two weeks "frozen" in place. Asked him about Maryland's Strongest Hands. He said he does deadlifts so he understood the axle and saxon concept. But he wasn't optimistic about my index finger being up for it. I'm just going to wait and see. I have another appointment with him in two weeks.
