I got air with the right but couldn't hold it for the whole lift.

With a hook 315 is certainly doable.  315# is a great lift without a hook.  You're in rare air at that point!

No Hook!!! I actually never lifted with hook.
Next time I will lift with inner arm showing with grip hand,wasn't paying attention to detail.

Wanting to hit my grip hard for grippers so no hook here..
Don't get me wrong I believe 315 would be harder than hell,just a long term goal.
I believe I will get close anyway...

The bar you use makes quite a bit of difference also - my Eleiko training bar spins like crazy and is slick - much different than a Texas Power bar of similar.  And a bar with a bit of bend in it can add a lot of weight to your lift.

Great lift David!  Chris has some great points.  Bar is EVERYTHING on a one-hand deadlift.  Especially with no hook.  I have done 275lbs on the thumbless-grip one-hand deadlift in competition (220lbs bodyweight in 2009) and I can tell you that within a few weeks of that same lift my highest lift on my training bar (slick, rotates well, but actually a cheapie bar) was about 220lbs.  I have never lifted on another bar that this bar wouldn't allow me to add quite a bit of poundage to though.  It is super hard.  I've pulled 308lbs (no hook) on it some years ago in a one-hand deadlift.  You will get to 315lbs - just keep the faith and persevere!

I probably should have waited till I put in more time with this lift before I threw out a 315lb goal lift.
I will keep at it and see what comes.

How do you guys feel this style compares with a more traditional facing the bar one handed dead? Setting up in a sumo like stance but with only one hand in the middle?

That was a great lift man, 315 should be well within your reach.

I'm only asking causw I have no idea but how does this differ from farmers walks?
