That's my point. The bakers union should feel dumb for putting 18000 people out of work. Of course they don't see it that way. Sounds like the Teamsters are pretty pissed at them. The drivers were able to settle given the dire circumstances.

Well kind of, not really. The strike was simply the last straw that broke the crippled company's back. Hostess has been going under for many reasons. Was the strike a dumb idea, yes. Are they too blame, no. They were going to go under any second anyways. There was no way the company was going to magicaly recover if the strike never happened.

Good points. They were also covering how Hostess had not been very creative nor ambitious with inventing products that would be better received (read: healthier) in today's marketplace.

Look out for Orowheat and Sar Lee next. It's more than just Hostess. Orowheat will probably be cutting 30% of their work force then be bought by Sara Lee. Then of course more job cuts after the merge. Too many variables to name but it's obvious it's part of the huge decline of our economy. Maybe at some it will turn around but that won't be any time soon.

I never really cared for twikies or ho-ho's, but the fruit pies were the BOMB!!! I loved those things. They used to a have a hostess clearance store by my folks house when I was teenager, and I'd I go in there with a couple bucks, then come out and stuff my face with apple and cherry pies. I haven't had one in 20 years though, cuz once I read the nutritional info and saw how much fat and sugar were in those things, I got scared off. But they are damn tasty. The dad of a friend of mine back then used to work at the hostess bakery nearby and he said the place wasn't run very well, and wasn't that thrilled to work there.

I struck out yesterday trying to find twinkies and ding dongs in my little town. They were already sold out! I did get some chocolate and cherry pies - yum!

This information could be wrong, its just what I've read.

The avg salary for a Hostess employee was $43,000. The CEO had a salary of $750,000. The employees were asked to accept a cut in pay while the CEO got a raise to $2.25 million. Doesn't seem right to me.

But what do I know, I'm just a union construction worker who doesn't deserve the amount of money I make.

Look at the hockey strike. 8 years ago they were on strike for a whole season and the players had to settle on a 24% pay cut across the board. Since then the industry profits have risen 7.5% on average for those 8 years. Here they are again on strike because the owners want them to take another 20% pay cut for the next 5 years. Hockey players are already one of lowest paid major US sports. This crap is across the board all over the country. Without getting too much into it, it's the country we've grown to become. When the government encourages this stuff of course big business owners will abuse that opportunity. Can we say government bailouts? Isn't GM going to file bankrupcy, again?
