Several of us have been working on developing an updated list of qualifications for our US Nationals / North American Championship based upon the weight classes introduced this year.

Also, we expanded the events that would count for qualification as well as the wild card feats.

Aside from myself, Brent Barbe, Chris Rice, Matt Cannon and Sean Dockery contributed to the list in various ways, and there may have been others that I am not aware of.

Thanks to those who assisted.

I welcome any questions you might have regarding the list.

Thanks,

Jedd

Thanks for getting this done early so that clear goals can be set for the next year.

One question: Can you elaborate on the video submissions? Does this mean that you can video yourself performing three of the feats in Qualification Chance #2, and these could be done outside of a NAGS-sanctioned contest?

yes, the 3 lifts from section 2 can be submitted by video as well as comp lifts. after discussion it was decided we'd give this a try. people are busy, can't always travel, etc. also, as Andrew Durniat said to me while discussing it,"let them fake a lift. they can show up and look stupid while I use the money for prizes."

so, we'll be trying it out to see how the video submissions work.

get after it, get qualified, compete with the best in the country. very simple.

Scratch that - Brent already got it. Thanks guys.

Awesome work guys. That looks great.

This may have been covered elsewhere but how do women qualify for Nats? Is it auto qual if they compete in a santioned grip event?

I think this was a smart move for the long haul, but I am curious- Was there anyone who was prepared to show up and lift who was not qualified, who spoke up?

there were a couple of people who said the were trying to get in during the immediate period leading up. also, if you knew you couldn't make those lifts because you weight 148# you might not have even spoken up. hopefully getting these standards out now, as well as accepting video submissions, will drive attendance for next year.

here are 2 suggestions made after jedd said he was surprised by the lack of people who said they were going to compete at nationals:

Posted ImageChez, on 29 May 2012 - 02:09 PM, said:

maybe think about lowering the qualifying lifts that can be submitted via video. Might be some people who want to go but just can't qualify. Just an idea.

(my response was) or have qualifying tiers based on weight classes. some of the qualifying lifts are relatively easy for a 120+ guy verse a 73k guy.

Appears they definitely listened. Where are nationals next year?

awesome. with a year to work you should have no trouble bringing up enough lifts to get qualified. you will not regret going.
