EricMilfeld
I appreciate ya, Tom and Matt. Tom, good luck in Scranton. I'm sure you'll do quite well! Matt, I think you're right about a little weight gain now and then being beneficial. honk
Thanks Steve and Jason! Saturday I doubled a 468 squat. Yesterday I overhead pressed 153x7 and x5. With this three week period of a cold and then bad allergies my strength has taken a hit. I've also a personal thing going on (not bad), so instead of doing raw nationals I'm going to take a vacation. When I come back I'll drop down to the 205 class again, as this weight gain isn't paying off like I had hoped. Sometimes gaining a few pounds a year is the way to go. And by a few I mean like 4-5 at the most. I'm sorry to hear about the cold, I seem to get sick after my comps from the stress myself. I like that you've got a plan together as well! You could be a lean 232# by the time you reach masters 2. But you'll wreck shop anyway.
EricMilfeld
Sounds like a solid plan Eric, I look forward to reading your log when your back. Enjoy the vacation Thank you, Jeff. I head up to Colorado Thursday morning. Yay! Thanks Steve and Jason! Saturday I doubled a 468 squat. Yesterday I overhead pressed 153x7 and x5. I have to really work to put on muscle. If I can stay a fairly lean 205, dropping a few pounds the day before contest, and bump up my total a little each contest I will be very pleased. MattM
By keeping the sets volume down, keeping intensity high, and picking core exercises you're probably one of the most qualified people to ask if low back recovery is the #1 limiting factor towards progressing in a lift... what do you think? I've trained my quads 4 times a week and walked up hill for an hour each day and their fine, but after a heavy deadlift or deadlift for reps I feel a low back pump during warmups for at least a week and a half sometimes more.

I'm using straps on the dumbbell rows. Even though I don't totally lose my grip without them, I can knock out a couple extra reps with them. A couple of months ago I noticed it was approaching and then forgot about it. This calls for a beer! And I would have lifted more weight tonight had I realized the historical relevance of this post.
