Frank Pizzo
So I plan on competing in this years International King Kong of Grip Challenge and wanted to see where I stand at the various events. This is the first time I've tried one hand pinch and I was surprised that it is considerably less than half of my two hand pinch. I've done 170 lbs with two hands on the same pinch block and I was expecting around half of that for this event which would be 85 lbs. I succeed only with 70.6. I wonder if everyone has the same disparity or is it just because I haven't trained this yet....I would think its not really much different than 2hp, but then again...I wasn't all that close to half like I expected. Anyway here is the video: and thanks for taking a look.
Strongmanpharmd
That was a good looking lift! I'm thinking about doing that contest too and training on a similar pinch block for the 1HP...I'll let you know how it goes. I've pinched 2 35's together before but never tried a 2HP so we'll see if I can get my hands on one of those too for comparison.
Cannon
Most people cannot pinch half their 2HP on the 1HP. Mostly it's because you can get a torsion interaction between your hands on the 2HP. A lot more rotational force to add pressure behind your thumb that transfers through your wrist and into your arms. If you try this on a 1HP, everything will just spin. Also...solid lift

Thanks man, I'm always eager to find out more info from what other people experience in their training...especially comparisons across devices and what not. Thanks for the awesome explanation Matt. Now I don't feel so bad that the numbers weren't exactly what I was expecting. Very Strong Pinch Frank!!! Thank you David, my pinch started off as my weakest event but I've been working it consistently and it has come up considerably over time...now if I could just get my thickbar to do the same....but that's another story. Frank Pizzo
Solid lift, Frank. Nicely done. Is that The Two Hander from FBBC ? Thanks man, and no. The pinch block was actually made by GripBoard member AndrewP, he's made a lot of implements and they are all top notch. The loading pin I made.
jvance
I think you would get a bit more on a euro bc it allows for tilt. This comes into play mainly with 1hp and not 2hp bc the weight is a good bit less. It's reasonably harder to one hand pinch a block like that w/ a pin. I have only lifted on a Euro once and that was at a contest so the exact technique is still a bit elusive for me. I do remember everyone telling me to try and get a little tilt out of it. I'm optimistic then that when it comes time I can put up a few more pounds on an actual Euro at the KK. Only time will tell. Thanks again for taking a look. jvance
I'm one of the rarer breeds that do better pinching one handed... My left and right one hand total is only 7 lbs less than my best 2hp lift. No idea why either, tried so many different things and feel like I could bust a 20 lb pr any day but it hasn't materialized yet. Following the normal 1hp2hp relationship pattern I am 20-30lb short of where I should be.
Stephen Ruby
My best one hand pinch is actually over 50% of my two hand pinch-never tried left hand though-. Also agree with jvance that you would lift more on the euro for sure. I think the one hand pinch is less technical then the two hand pinch. I think you can engage your whole body in the two hand pinch easier then the one hand hence a bigger lift. That was a solid first attempt though and looked pretty easy, good control. How wide was the block? Edited July 26, 2014 by Stephen Ruby

I have experienced the opposite being able to tilt a pinch block more than a Euro. However Jon is a much stronger pincher. I would suggest pinching plates from time to time through your training since plates behave more like a Europinch than a pinch block.Nice pinch by the way, Mr. Pizzo. Good luck in your training. The width of the block is 50 mm. Nice pinch Frank, easy! Thanks! I have experienced the opposite being able to tilt a pinch block more than a Euro. However Jon is a much stronger pincher. Thanks, and yeah I do a little plate pinching but the bulk of my training is with that block. I haven't touched an actual Euro since I've been training with the block but I'm hopeful the ratio of improvement will be favorable.
