JHenze646
I wasn't supposed to do any bending today but everthing else has been challenging so I figured it couldn't hurt. The 1/4 square before this kinked well and I decided to jump up to a Bastard. This is the first 5/16 in a while and the first Bastard in singles. Bastard bend: https://youtu.be/dUahtYuHFSQ Technique advice welcome. Suns out...
anwnate
Good bend. I feel like a dh trying to give you advice on a solid bend...but... (since I'm a dh)... Your first three hits could (potentially...with time) be one hit. Seriously...watch it over and over. I don't necessarily think it's strength issue...more of a initial grip issue. The forth hit was kinda pointless...don't think you were prepared. Check out almost any of EJ's vids. Every single hit is well prepared and well...freakin damaging. Other than that...pretty freakin sweet. Mind you, I'm bitching about a vid where someone destroys a Bastard in IMPs in around a minute. However...you asked for advice (whether or not I'm qualified...my cajones told me to post), so I'm giving you my two cents.
EJ Livesey
I agree with Nate. You don't have a strength issue at all. It's more of a hand placement issue. I also noticed you lean back some? Maybe it was the angle of the video but it appears you are leaning back a little. If what I'm seeing is correct you are losing some strength doing that. That was a great bend, and all these things will click as you bend more. I suggest you get a cert video ready for FBBC if you haven't certed the bastard yet. I have to put my hands out on the end of the bar in order to get it into position. Any tips for stretching or improving the hand position? Also good to have you back on the board Nate.
anwnate
Thanks man. Honestly I think that volume will take care of hand position. The grab can be quite subtle and make a significant difference in the amount of movement each hit. If for some reason it's not your hand position, then it's likely your wrists could get a little stronger. (like most of us...especially me) I'm naturally pretty loose so I have no real stretching tips. Again...it was a sweet bend and it's likely that my nitpickyness isn't pointing out anything that won't improve with time. After my procedure, I'll start putting up my own bends (Julyish)...it'll be your turn to pick it apart.
