Bending Steel - The Movie

I happened to catch it on IFC about 6-8 months ago. It is a nicely made film. It focuses mainly on braced bending with very little of other styles mentioned. The main character, Chris Schoeck, wants to become an old-time strongman bender and enlists the help of Chris Rider.

It does a wonderful job of portraying the sickness that is the bending lifestyle, ie: Chris Schoeck spends endless hours chasing the dream and constantly thinking about bending a bar that eludes him over and over again.

Not a raw, emotional film like "Strongman", but a more direct, business-like feel to the film.

I was a sponsor for the movie, so I got an advanced copy a few years ago. The movie is somewhat dramatized, but has some nice material with Chris Rider, Slim the Hammer Man, and it finishes up at Coney Island. There is not really anything specific to unbraced bending, but it's enjoyable to watch, and if it had got more airtime with the public I think we'd see more people getting into bending.

Anton Torrella and I were lucky enough to see a showing at Coney Island and meet both Chris's.

They were extremely approachable and ended up chatting with us for like an hour and a half.

I really enjoyed the movie...got a Rocky-esque pump out of it.

I remember when it was being put together. Definitely want to see it! Does anyone know if Chris S. is still pursuing braced bending?

I am in the movie as are Tommy Heslep, Gary "The Brickman" Brown, Sonny Barry, Stanless Steel. It was a very well done film.
