Deadlift 400X20

I remember many many years ago a big name ad very strong powerlifter (the name escapes me but I think it was one of the bench specialists?) Issued this challenge as he found it to be extremely hard. A bunch of conditioned, lighter lifters did it but the heavy stronger guys were failing. I am guessing more so do to wind than anything else. Some lifters that are capable of 800 pound pulls put so much effort into the first 10 that they literally use up all their muscle fibers and cant do anymore. My son is built like this. Make him squat 135 for 10s and it kills him but he can smoke 175 for a single.

I never tried it (400×20). Not sure I ever will. But it is a nice feat of strength. Squatting 400x20 is a whole different beast. Great job Eric.

Yeah when I did it I went way too fast. I got 16 reps in 1:27 and hit a wall with my cardio. I should have used a slower tempo. Eric, you took your time as your vid is about 3min I noticed. Pulling more air/breaths between each rep.

I've done it on squats one time (vids on my YouTube) but it was 225. So not ultra heavy. I may try again but with 275.

I totally agree. Just a couple more relaxed breaths between reps and you would have nailed it.

Tremendous willpower and strength! Great motivation as I'm doing high rep lifting pretty much exclusively post injury

Thank you, Stephen!

If I wasn't training to compete and I wanted the most bang for the buck, it would be a steady diet of higher reps. Great for overall fitness!

Eric,

just read a facebook post from Chris Duffin who reported on his deload day he did 405 for 35 in around 30 seconds. The pic is of him sumo high pulling 405 to about chin height and the caption said something about "messing around with the barbell after pulling 405 for 35 in 30 seconds". Of course some people demanded video (despite him pulling 900 sumo in straps!) And he reported it would be up on his next training log post. Proof that big pullers who are in shape can man handle 405 I guess!

I don't know if I can clap my hands that fast. Would like to see that video!

He's not even close to natural and is a short guy so his rom especially using sumo is like 2 Inches lol. Plus it's touch and go bounce reps.

He was in the bros vs pros 405 for reps challenge and lost to this no name guy Mark something. That guy had won a few of them with like 40 reps. He pulls sumo and bounced too.

Only going to respond to this once. First off, ive met Chris as I did his supertotal cert. He is one of the most knowledgeable and nicest guys in the sport. Plus he squats 880 @ 220 in knee wraps and a belt and is highly respected by all the greats. Ed Coan has even sought him out for his knowldege. The stuff I took home from his squat presentation alone is the sole reason my son's squats are sky rocketing.

Second, the fact that someone did 405 for more reps means nothing. Hell at the Saxonburg Strengthfest Strongman contest I beat Pro Strongman Don Pope in the hummer deadlift. The only event he didnt win and didnt take home $100 for. What does that mean? Im stronger than a man who stood on the platform at Worlds Strongest Man??? Ummmmm....not even close. I got lucky and had better speed that day.

Don pope was a flop.

I'm not doubting at all he is very knowledgable or a nice guy but what I said stands.

How do we know what you are on???? Please contact Chris Duffin himself and ask him, or better yet just stop hating that he is strong and incredibly successful.

In 2006 Don Pope took 3rd place Worlds Strongest Man. How man times have you stood on that podium???? He would crush any weight you max at for reps, period. If he is a flop, wtf are you?

ive never taken anything not even a pro hormone.

Yeah how long did he compete? No one at that level is clean pal I hope you're not so obtuse that you're not aware of that so I don't think it's relevant to compare me, who works full time and raises a family and works out 2 days a week avg to someone who is very enhanced and treats training like a full time job.

Speaking of a full time job, maybe it's time you get one. Supposedly disabled and collecting. Disability but can still, how did you put it, train so hard you fear going to the gym or some dumb shit. You're the direction many are going in America. Buck up and step in line with the working class.

What i dont respect, Rick, is that you think others opinions arent worth a shit and should be swat down and over shadowed by your own views. And to me, as an actual combat vet, who has fought on foreign soil AGAINST that kind of mentality, i cannot stand anyone who refuses to respect anothers opinions, free speech, or views.

I didnt spend 8 years of my life working, bleeding, and living some sick shit for uncle sam, to come home and give in, or "roll over" to any bullshit like that. From anyone. And i also still feel the need to stand up for anyone who might fall victim to the above offenses, but may not be able, or willing to fight back against it.

Tommy, thank you for your service. The above portion of your post may be my favorite that I have seen on this forum in years. Puts some of our petty stuff in perspective.
