Grip Train Log

Hi everybody!

I started training with weights in 1991. Since october '03 I'm training with the grippers. I also train with the RT and sometimes do some pinchwork. Main goal is the 3#-close and progress on the RT. The last ten weeks I trained 2 grip sessions per week high volume with many negatives. Now I decided to reduce the volume and to train 3 times gripper workout per week.

monday: pinch, thick bar (RT)

wednesday: gripper

saturday: gripper, thickbar (RT)

sunday: gripper

(I think I'll only write down the gripper workouts and tell you about the RT-training only if it's worth mentioning)

When training with the grippers I do a little warmup (2 singles), then do singles with a tough gripper set to 15mm, after that an easier gripper set to 25+mm. I don't cheat the grippers shut. Closes are written down in brackets! At the end sometimes a cooldown.

Welcome! Nice start to your log, Burki. I have been doing grippers since the middle of October 03 also. There are about 1/2 a dozen or so of us who keep logs here and offer each other tips & encouragement. I'm looking forward to following your progress.

Those RBs are sure extra hard to close at the very end, even with a deep set. You must have a very strong close. Good job Burki! :bow

Yes, perhaps I'll do some strapholds - but wich gripper should I take? I've got only the RB130, 2#, RB210, RB240 and the 3#. Strapholds lefthanded with the 2# is not possible, with the RB130 too easy.... . I have to buy some more grippers I think.

Filing down the grippers is a good idea, too. But I will do that only if I own two grippers of exactely the same level - but that's only a question of time!!

I do not really know were to buy something like blobs but I own the IM pinchgripblock, selfmade wooden blocks and a wooden ball to pinch with.

Nice log Burki. What is the highest gripper that you've performed a complete "full" rep with? Closing the RB240 is impressive. I only have an RB210 and it's a beast. Barely under my #3.

Hi Ben!

I can close the RB210 with my right hand with a 25+mm set but with the new IM rules I can only close the 2# with the right hand. Lefthanded I can close the 2# with a 25+mm set, sometimes. I find the RB210 much easier than the RB240 but I have no inbetween gripper.... . Sometimes I've closed the RB240 with a wider set (not 15mm as usual, for example 20-25mm - but only one time if I feel strong). Because I did that not regular I did not write it down here in my log. Sometimes I recognized the wide set after closing the gripper when I wonder why I was an extra tough close - if you know what I mean ;-) !

PS: In April I'll buy all (!) outstanding RB grippers (160,180,260,300,330) and more CoCs (T,1,4) - I think that's really enough forever..... :-)!
