Fat Bar Deadlift Weakness

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, probably my first post here !

I have a question regarding fat bar training. here's my problem :

When i do Rolling thunder deadlift , i can lift about 145 lbs (not wrist bent) and 160 (wrist bent)

Sometimes i switch to barbell deadlift with fatgripz (~ 2.5 inch thick ???) and strugle with 225 lbs ......

What is wrong , because i tought if i do 145 with one hand , i'll do 290 with 2 hands...

Btw i'm certainly stronger with the wrist bent because of armwrestling a lot.

But i want to improve hand strength.

Do you guys have some advice with that ?

Thanks.

Well both hands are not evenly strong. The ROM for both lifts are very different. Plus fat gripz are a soft slippery material. And fat gripz twist on deadlifts. I've found they are really only good for bench and curls.

Well in my case both hand are equal in RT. i do agree that ROM and slipery material might make this harder. personally i don't see the twisting , they seems to stay in place.

do you guys know what is consider good in the barbell deadlift with fatgripz (double overhand) ?

What's your bodyweight?

What's your regular deadlift?

These will determine more than your RT will.

I weight aroud 220-225 lbs

I can deadlift 500 lbs (powerlifting grip)

best double overhand no hook grip 385 lbs

best one hand deadlift hook 335 lbs

I hold about 725 lbs in the powerlifting grip

hope this help.

Is that a muscular 100kg or a fat 100kg?

Looks like you can force/impart more strength on a one hand basis...I can not see any other rational...hope this helps! :)

If a guy deads 500 he is going to have some muscle.

I can't think of many good reasons that your RT is so much better.

It may be a combination of your RT not rotating as freely as it once did, and your wrist involvement on fatgripz.

I think if you engage your wrists and use a sumo stance, your fatgripz DLs will shoot up to 250+.

Stick at it. Hope this helps.

If you're pulling 160 rt you should be pulling much more with your FGs...that is odd... I don't have the greatest RT.... Only pulled 200+ once but my FGs DL pr is 350

I have the same problem. My one hand thick bar lifts are much better than 2 hands. 200 rolling thunder right 190 left, 165 1 hand axle dead right and 155 left but only a 306 contest DO axle and about the same in training.

Yeah i know , but i can do 160 on RT with the wrist bent , and only 145 with the hand. since FG on barbell seems similar in diameter then RT , i tough i'll do at least 290 lbs ... but it's true that FG is slipery , so it might only be that...

Hand size? What is the length of your hand?

Hand is 8 inches but it's thick ... good for gripper lol

Well, for Axle that is plenty big. I am a bit stumped with your good overall strength level, decent hand size and the lower thick bar numbers. But I don't want to weigh in without knowing your actual "Axle" double overhand numbers. I don't know too much about the "apples and oranges" comparisons of Fat Gripz with Axle.

Out of everybody I know the two values for, they all fall within 85-90% of their axle.

what two values Yori? Then you can take a guess what I'll pull on the manus grips. See how close you can guess!

Sure. If you know your axle strength right now, I could probably get out pretty close.

The two values are Manus/Fatgripz and Axle.

Oh. Not sure of an axle number. Only tried one once in 04 and forgot that.

my numbers are close to these. Have done 565 conventional and have done 425 doh but never maxed on that. I have done 190 on my new rt handle and broke 197 off the ground and hit 200 on a old Handle years ago.

I'm hoping to hit 3 plates on manus grips. Will see no idea at all

Don't know on rt but best do axle 220.5kg, best do fat gripz 160.5kg x 4, best one arm deadlift regular bar 140kg for 3 singles each hand. Have never really pushed the last two but gives you an idea as am pretty well rounded nowadays.

If you are struggling more with none bent wrist then you should do thickbar with your wrist slightly bent outwards to stress the thumb more and do wide plate pinch holds. Also you want to make sure you are working your weak hand just as hard as stronger hand, if not harder, as with two handed lifts if the weak hand fails it does not matter what the strong hand can hold.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply guys.

Maybe it's only a thumb weakness like paul said. i'll work on that.

I have a 2inches diameter axle bar that revolve in the gym ... was able to lift about 300 lbs.
