Squeezus
I just bought a Robert Baraban Adjustable gripper and was thinking about how convenient it would be for use in a competition. I do have a few questions about this, however: 1. If I RGC the gripper with each spring at each spring position, could the event be NAGS sanctioned for 20mm Blockset? 2. If the event cannot be sanctioned, does this have any effect on the other events being sanctioned?
EJ Livesey
I believe DH adjustable gripper is used in Worlds Strongest Hands.
Squeezus
I believe DH adjustable gripper is used in Worlds Strongest Hands. But, I haven't seen WSH listed on the leaderboards on gripsport.org. It makes sense to me that adjustables and TSGs wouldn't be placed in the same category since the ergonomics and dynamics of the close are different. I will likely have the RB Adjustable, 2HP, and Axle Deadlift, followed by a medley. It's not a big deal if I can't have the grippers listed on the leaderboard, I will just have to wait a few years until I have more grippers. My guess is yes, the contest can still be sanctioned in general. People are coming up with new event ideas all the time. You don't have to have a gripper event at all.
acorn
You will not see either of those adjustable grippers on the gripsport.org site for rankings. They don't fit in a standard RGC and springs can still vary a bit so there is no good way to quantify from gripper to gripper that the same level is the same poundage wise. WIthout a nice repeatable, quantifiable, and trackable number we wouldn't be able to do the auto rankings engine for the database regardless. David Horne does track records I think for the DH adjustable on his site though. That is not to say that it is not a good training tool or a sanctionable event though. It would be fine I think. Just not able to rank on the site. If you want to run a comp with it I don't see an issue. - Aaron
