richcottrell
Reading this has been very interesting. A few months ago I bought one of David Horne's wrist developers but besides that, I have precisely zero knowledge in the fine art of bending. I would love to see a video on toughening the hands. Short of buying the Iron Mind "bag of nails" and Jedd's ebook I would not know how to get started in a healthy way...
robertmiller67
Great general info guys! I'm back on the bending trail & looking forward to sharing our experiences good or bad! Just refreshing my memory as it seems I've forgotten some of the finer points of bending over the past year.

Forever
cool thread! i am in total agreement about sticking to imps for the first year or so. thats exactly what i did.. but i never gave it any thought tho. and the reason for that was that i didnt really know what leather to make wraps out of or where to get it, so i stuck with imps. i also just skimmed through the thread, and didnt notice if anyone already said this, but bending in the imps will force good technique on you by way of pain in the hands and wrists, so to speak.. eventually, after bending in them for awhile, you'll learn the best place to hold for optimal power that hurts as little as possible. not to sound redundant in my own post, but over time after bending solely in imps, you'll naturally make technique adjustments that you may not even notice until you see someone else struggle with a bend. ...if that makes sense. lol and then, once your melting stuff in imps that once felt impossible, break out the double wraps and see your PRs skyrocket. as far as length is concerned, im sort of a mixed opinion since i tried it all. no length has been overly painful for me i guess.. none that ive tried anywyas (never went longer than 8-3/8"). because if i cant even get it under my chin, chances are i wont be able to put a heavy enough load on it to do any long term damage. BUT, had i tried long stuff in double wraps right from the get go (before i had developed a reliable technique) ther may have been a show stopper of an injury due to going nuts on a situation i wasnt familiar with. for beginners, i say stay at 6-7" in imps for awhile. you'll build a great base for DO this way. Great info here...
