truth1ness
So I picked up a couple pairs of GHP gripper handle sleeves (skin savers II). I do my normal sets with the knurling first and then put these on for higher reps. They seem to have a high quality durable foam. I got them so I can train more without skin limiting me while it toughens up. They obviously do that well but I noticed they really change the stimulus quite a bit. Do to the wider handle diameter I can really feel it a lot more in the last two finger joints. It seems like these might be a good way to get more strength in the finger tip joint. They do increase the whole hand pump I get, kind of similar to a towel hold. I use them on my GD80 gripper as well as on my Ivanko. They slide on and off perfectly on the GD80, and due to the more parallel close they don't change the rom, it's almost like they were tailor made for this gripper. Note that with other TSG's it will limit how far they can close, though I figure you could shave down one end so it doesn't get in the way. I never really liked the smooth metal of the Ivanko but it feels really great with the skin savers. For the Ivanko I just cut a lengthwise slit so I can pop them onto the handle. I can't speak to this because I only have the above mentioned grippers, but some reviews on Amazon say it's a bit hard to slide them on and off of CoC grippers which would be annoying, though you could probably just cut a slit in them like I did with the Ivanko pair. A lot of people say grippers aren't "functional", but with these on it feels like a more 'functional' exercise because the extra bulk and roundness plus the natural give make it feel like your crushing someone's arm. I could see this being really useful for grapplers. I haven't used them on my heaviest resistance yet, I feel like I need to let my fingertip tissues adapt to the higher stress on them from these. You could probably do something similar with a cut up towel and some rubber bands but this is a much more convenient and nice looking solution. If you want just skin protection and no change to the mechanics then you are better off with tape or maybe something like a thin t-shirt material. But I think these are good for combined skin protection plus an interesting change in stimulus. Anyone else have these and train with them? Gary Gray
Truth1ness, I saw your Post and just ordered 2 of them. In the past, they were always sold out. Thank you
Anthony C.
Nice review man. I wonder if I cut a slit in them, would they fit around the handles of a plate loaded grip machine such as the Thor? Hmm
truth1ness
I'm not sure about that machine, but keep in mind a gap is ok. It just needs to get around the halfway point so it will stay on. Your fingers/palm only touch the outer sides so the gap doesn't make much difference.
Brad L
I just ordered a set to give them a try for high reps. Last time I checked on them they were sold out.
