Cannon
Safe? Probably. You could make a pvc adapter for like $4.
climber511
I use 1" loading pins with Olympic weights all the time. As long as the base is big enough the plates can't slide over (I don't own one personally) - they are plenty strong enough for anything you would ever do.
bencrush
Got the ironmind 1' loading pin. Would it be safe to load Olympic plates on it? The IronMind 1" loading pin is very strong. I used to put a standard 2.5lb plate on the bottom of whatever weight I was loading with Olympic plates. The one I have was used for partial deadlifts with a ring handle, RT, and some other fixed handles. It was only loaded in the low 200s for RT. But 300-400lbs for the fixed handle deadlifts. And never had a problem with it during any of that. I still have the 1" loading pin and it could no doubt do all the workouts I've ever done with it all over again and be just fine. Another note about how strong the 1" loading pin is (IronMind, specifically). It is not recommended to load weight on the loading pin and then drop it. Duh, right? But sometimes that happens. About 8 years ago I was training 1" vbar for a USAWA contest. I won't go into detail about the rules here. But a shorter loading pin is required for the USAWA contests. Anyway, I had 325lbs on the 1" loading pin that I was using as a vbar. Pulled it to as much of a lockout as I could with the weight plates in the way. Then, before I could lower it under control, it popped out of my grip. Slammed to the ground from about a foot off the ground and hit the concrete floor in my garage. Put a chunk in the concrete, but barely scratched the loading pin base.
