Fatgripz Experiences

I think Fatgripz are exactly 2 inches if there is no olympic diameter (28mm) bar inside spreading it out. If you use a thinner handle like you find on standard sized 1 inch bars the fatgripz will be the standard 2 inch size because of the 25mm bar diameter. I think a lot of dumbbell handles are 25mm so they had to make a compromise and pick one or the other to be the ideal inner diameter. If you have a drill press or something it might be useful to core out the inside of the fatgripz to 28mm so it fits perfectly on an olympic barbell and will match your 2 inch axle.

I'd be really curious to see how closely your lifts match up if you cored out the middle or used a thinner bar with the deadlift. It seems like once the diameter is equalized the Fatgripz should come out a little ahead because of the grippier texture.

My FGs are new and measure 2.26" with no bar inside. Depending on the bar size it can easily go up to 2.375 (Inch DB handle size). That's a large enough difference in diameter to see a marked change in weight lifted between them and an IM Axle at.2.0" and even more so on a Pipe Axle at 1.9".
