jchapman
Here is my progress on the Red Nail. I think I had it after the second hit on the crush, that would put it at about 1:30. Regardless, I took a ton of time off my previous best of over 9:00. And yes EJ, I am still bending over way too much! Turn down the volume unless you like Motley Crüe.
king crusher
Man that kink was huge! It seems like you stall on the sweep? For me the kink is the hardest part of a red, after that, for me, it starts folding over quick. I'd try hitting it again quicker. You would be surprised even that slight wait lets the steel cool where as if you keep hitting it it stays warmer. And yeah bending over way down takes your power out I'd think. I liked your kink and how long you held it. I'm going to hold it more thanks jchap
jchapman
Thanks King! I don't know if I stall on the sweep or if it is considered the crush. It happens at about 4". Anyway, your point is well taken about hitting it sooner. I have been trying to dial in my technique and reduce the energy leaks. This has lead me to take my time and apply my force slowly until I feel I am in the exact position I need to be in--then hit it hard. I think I have made good progress there, and I will now focus on speeding up the time between hits. I know that bending over is frowned upon, I try not to do it, but I feel like this is the only way I can engage my back and shoulders. I know that I must be careful to not let my hands touch my legs when I do this. So far I am good, but I will continue to try to be more upright. acromegaman
Great job! Once I got my form down I started to experiment with different stances and engagements and by that I mean slow steady neck positioning or throwing it up to my neck and instantly applying all of my power. I find the latter works better for me. Experimentation helped me out a lot.
Tim71
Super job! I bend over on some of them as well. As you say, it feels like I can engage more that way.

MANTHOS
Let's not forget that a Red in IMPs is a world class bend. Great bend!
Frank Pizzo
Great bend man...you keep getting closer and closer to doing it under official conditions! Can't wait to see you melt one in under a minute!

king crusher
Tim what does 5/16" stainless round run for poundage in 7"? I believe around 420..its a Shiny Bastard I think That would put it in red zone but the stuff I'm wondering about was the bars Lucas gave me to try and said they were harder than a red. I am planning to try one in a few days or so.Okay I just went back to the pm's and it's 304 stainless which he said could be around 500-520? Tim71
My 304 stainless hits 460 to 465 but with a much tougher crush than a red. In the real world of bending it's nice jump up from the red. As with any steel, stainless varies too but my last 2 batches of 304 were right around that amount. Really good stuff and a nice jump up from the red. Go for it man. I see from the video, I'm not the only one who hangs grippers form the floor joists.
acromegaman
Guys, here is a good source for getting a general idea of what a certain bar might rate. All steel would vary with lots, but this is a good approximation. http://az-grip.com/calibration.php

Is the 304 kink harder than a red or similar? Yeah that's a good chart acro I've seen that one
Tim71
I'd just say different. I think the first 5 degrees or so of the stainless kink may be about the same or slightly easier but harder from there. To most people's hands, the kink itself will probably feel harder. I'm kinda different in that I like a bar to flex just a little to kind of give me a run at it so to speak. It's roughly in the same league but can be perceived differently by different people. You'll just have to try it and experience it for yourself. It's just a different feeling bend.....to me anyway.
king crusher
In weight lifting a little flex in the bar helps with the lift. If you have a real flexy bar when dead lifting you are getting up off the floor before the weight actually starts moving so flex would help in a bend I'm sure. Yeah I'll try it. Sean Cashman
Really solid progress. I like how long you held your initial kink. That will serve you well in the future. Great Bend!
