Alawadhi
Title says it all. I am buying AW table and dunno which to take. Any suggestions or pros and cons of each?
Eric Roussin
Pin lines are much better. Much easier for the referees to determine if a pin is made. We use them in Canada. But currently the World Armwrestling Federation requires pads at the World Championships.
acromegaman
Lines are easier to replace when worn or broken. IMO pads are for Novice use and for that they work great.

Alawadhi
Can someone get hurt using the lines if his hands got smashed so quick?
Eric Roussin
Most tables have some sort of covering, but for those that don't, sure, this is a possibilty. But to obtain a pin you only need to get to 4" from the table top (the elbow pad measures 2" and the pin line is 2" higher than the pad). Most matches don't go all the way to the table. I've never seen someone get really hurt from being "slammed" to the table. I think pin lines with some sort of table covering is the way to go. climber511
I know less than nothing about the subject - but if the lines are at 4" and the pads were at 2" - wouldn't you have both things covered?
Eric Roussin
Are you describing a hybrid version? Pin lines at 4" to detect pins and a 2" pad underneath to protect the hand? I've never seen this. I guess it could work. But I don't think enough injuries have occurred to make the pad necessary.
Ivarboneless
Chris, I think I know how your misunderstanding arose. I think you've misunderstood Eric's post above due to the second use of "pad" not being qualified as an elbow or pin pad. There are "pin lines" and "pin pads" that are devices for determining a pin. Doubling those would be doubling up as you suggested; however, Eric's post above refers to a four inch high "pin line" that is two inches taller than the 2" high ELBOW pad (as opposed to pin pad). Competitors place their elbows on the elbow pad and seek to pin their opponent to the pin line or pin pad, whichever is used. With so many "pads" on the table, it is easy for a non-armwrestler to confuse the two. Edited July 16, 2014 by Ivarboneless
