Rgc Ratings

Alright, lets get some things out of the way straight out. I really don't care about calibrations very much at all. I like to know what mine rate at and know where the close stands compared to other gripster's grippers. This could be a great way to figure out the averages in poundages down the road. For now, just post what gripper it is, the poundage and who calibrated it. If the gripper has been calibrated more than once, then post both poundages in chronological order and place the names of whoever calibrated the grippers in their respective positions.

ONLY RGC CALIBRATIONS IN POUNDS OR IN KGS!!!

I'll start it off.

2007 #3 - 152.6/148 Chris Rice/Dave Thornton

RB240 - 140.1 Chris Rice

RB210 - 139.46 Chris Rice

Those numbers all look about 10# or so high. You may want to send one for verification to one of the other calibrators.

I think Aaron is right man :) A 182 BBE is a SOLID BBE and a 139 240N is STOUT. My RB240 cal'd at 140.1 and your narrow cal'd 1lb less?

I did :) You calibrated the 2005 #3 at 163.5. I sometimes get 163.5 but the average of all my calibrations on the gripper is 165.

I really have taken great pains to fine tune my set-up (made by Climber511) including weighing my weights at the post office and cross-calibrating grippers with Acorn. I don't think the MM1 and MM2 should be going 150 and 155lbs respectively. Remember the handles are adjustable and I get a slightly different calibration every time I move them. Always within 1-2lbs though. These are my averages so far. The BBSM would be much easier if it was not double-filed. I think Lukeamdman can verify the difficulty of the BBE (he is training with it currently). The RB240n was sold to me as such, but it's unmarked. The spread is 2.5". I believe the calibrations are sound.

Well alright then, we'll go with them. But I still say a 139 RB240N is pretty crazy. As far as I had heard, they were around 120ish. The only few that really seemed OUT THERE to me were the 240N, 05' #3 and the BBE. That makes all of them CRAZY hard compared to their brethren. I can't say they aren't out there though, so why not yours :)

I tend to sell my grippers once I close them and keep the hard ones. I have calibrations for others that I've sold but didn't post those because I don't have them now (133lb BBSM, 149lb #3, 152lb #3, 203lb #4 are some examples). That #4 was also calibrated by Eric Milfeld and Matti (Teemu has it now). I think Eric got 204lb and Matti got 206lbs.

That's a good way to always be closing new grippers. Sounds like you have a pretty tough batch if your numbers have been validated by others. :rock

Well, I am am general high calibration disbeliever as well, the BBE and #3 seem out there BUT

I have an RB 240 that isn't marked narrow but it has a 2.5" spread (older one, back when they had one ring on the handle), and it hit 140.

The 182lb BBE is legit. I can close 3.3 level grippers, and I can only get that BBE to about 3/16". My BBE calibrated to 189.5lb's, and it was way harder than the 182lb BBE. Earlier this week I oiled the 189.5'b BBE and my guess is that it's around 180lb's now.

Matt's 182lb BBE calibrated that way AFTER being seasoned and oiled.

I'm still skeptical about the 165+ #3 grippers. And definitely 180+ elites.

Maybe something is up with the newer grippers. I've seen Elite's with buried springs that wouldn't get near 180.

To give some familiarity with where I am coming from, I would guess the MM1 is maybe 150-155ish, and MM2 165-167ish. I squeezed my easier elite on the same day as my MM2, and the MM2 was a bit easier.

If I remember right, Gamidon's Elite Plus went 180 or 182?. It was just an Elite with the spring buried.

Looks like they messed up some of their numbers somewhere. On the original RGC page they have the Elite Plus as 182ish, on their final averages and list, they have their toughest elite as 173.

I wonder if they're counting it as an elite?

If you guys saw the detail Matt goes into to calibrate these things, you wouldn't doubt the numbers. And for crying out loud, he cross calibrated the 165 #3 with Acorn, and it was within 1.5lb's...

The #4 that Matt calibrated was calibrated by two other guys later, and BOTH of their numbers were HIGHER than Matt's.

All the facts say the numbers are accurate.

Let's face it, when we have different people using slightly different set ups some numbers are going to be weird, given the variances inherent in TSG. My off-the cuff reaction would be to have some kind of average of each type of gripper, and anything over that by a given amount would have to be cross-calibrated by someone else before being accepted. Otherwise, you're just going to get people saying "Yeah, Bro, but my #3 was a mutant at 190lbs, and everyone going "Yeah, right".... is this too much work? I don't know, and that will have to be seen.

Yeah, this process is gonna be flawed as hell. There is probably an error margin bordering on 5 pounds between people, and unfortunately that can mean a huge gap in gripper strength.
