I'll Be Back

Decided to start a new log, I am slowly getting back to training grip after 2 years of not doing anything that you could call specific grip training. Tested couple of days ago where I begin this time. Not as weak as I thought. Closed an easier #3.5 with CCS. Video later.

Good to see you back again. Do you have any specific goals you want to achieve? Maybe get revenge on that IM #3.5 cert?

Yes, that among others. I'll post a list of goals during these recent days but the most important goal is #4 close with 20 mm block set.

Cool! Nice to read this man. What Jason asked btw, regarding your blog.

That is amazing crushingwork after such a long time off. Not even struggling to get it closed. It's now obviously to me I have no talent in this area lol However this is motivating as hell.

Thanks all! Feels like a warm welcome. :)

Grip feels a bit iffy from yesterdays Krav Maga session. For a month or two, I thought to have fun with this rather than follow tight program. So today, I trained with Vulcan with different way that I usually train grippers. Did not use chalk and despite the fact that the older version of Vulcan feels somewhat too wide for me I trained on its full ROM. To really make it an exercise of the distal joint flexion, I went super slow on these. Started with level 3 and went on from there, 5 reps each level. This started to feel really hard when I got to level 7! Normally, I would try to start the close no matter what set as explosively as I can. While it is the best way to treat gripper closes for best gains, it will not strengthen the distal joint flexion as much as the technique I used today. I have done this in the past but not nearly enough. For best possible TNS strength I think these might turn out to be good. I felt that I am clearly hitting one weakness really effectively with this.

May start updating the blog as well Jason and Geralt, thanks for reminding me that I have one lol!

  • 3 months later...

Funny thing...shortly after I started this log, I managed to injure my shoulder in Krav Maga training in the beginning of October. Focused all my training around shoulder rehab after that. I had to wait for MRI for 2 months after the injury, but fortunately even though the MRI confirmed torn labrum, it had already started to form scar tissue to re-attach itself. Most likely I will get it to decent enough condition in time just doing sensible rehab and will be able to avoid surgery. Haven't logged anything about my rehab here because it is really boring. Just trying to get my rotators as strong as possible to compensate the joint instability. As for grip it's been fairly light so far. I have a goal to return to Krav Maga training in February and decided to up the amount of grip training now along with GPP and rehab.

This made my day. Absolutely incredible. Is it a light, average or hard #3.5?

Looks like your hands are sub 8" too, or am I wrong?

Ring & grip training

1. L-sit hold practice

2. Fat grip Fatman rows

3. Standing ab rollouts

- Performed in a circuit

KB press 16 kg

5x8

Grip got effectively covered with rows. Left shoulder is just starting to tolerate pressing.

Well if you mean surgery, most of the similar grade labral tears heal just fine through patient rehab. I talked to an orthopedic surgeon about the surgery and he said that surgical labrum repairs rarely succeed well enough and that risk of failure is something to seriously consider.

I had my surgery done about 9 years ago when I fell off a roof and have never had a prob since. All of my strongest lifts have been after the surgery. Mine had torn off the bone though, man that was a sucky time in my life.
