Jedd Johnson
This is a message from the IGC relating to something that came up after the King Kong of Grip: Kody Burns was wearing wrist bands when he set the new world record on the Two Hands Pinch, and several competitors / non-competitors brought the concern to various IGC members. We then discussed it, and came to a decision regarding this issue in an efficient manner. Questions are welcomed, as always. Following is the ruling: "Regarding the Kody Burns sweat band issue: we the IGC discussed this greatly yesterday. All five members decided it was best to include the record, as the mistake hadn't been done with malice, as the promoter thought sweat bands were fine on the wrist. Also Kody has lifted this weight in training on video with nothing on his wrists. Obviously Eric Roussin and Andrew Pantke the promoters wanted the lift to count, and were sorry about any mistakes. From now on nothing will be allowed on the wrists, and we will have zero tolerance to this. All promoters please read the IGC pdf: http://www.davidhorne-gripmaster.com/TechnicalRulesBookRevised2014.pdf"
jchapman
What is the reason that sweat bands on the wrist are specifically disallowed?
Jedd Johnson
Well, the main reason is because something could be under them that could aid in support, such as a wrist wrap. This has always been in the rules, as far as I remember. But it's something that has been missed for a while.
