Jeff Parker
1/12/16 Changed my short term goal gripper from my 146 to my 140. Jeff Parker
1/16/16 Worst grip workout in the last few years. Grippers could barely move, I struggled to pinch for 1 or 2 reps what I did 3 days ago for 6. Got some light volume work in. Best I can figure out is I overdid it with the sledge finger walks last workout. Overall body strength was fine. I even set a PR in the overhead squat, standing strict press and push press. I'll rest up and try again later in the week
Jeff Parker
1/19/16 Grippers felt better. Jeff Parker
1/25 Got sick after my last workout, tonsillitis, ran a fever for a few days, today is the first day I feel ok, but very tired. Just did some easy CCS work, some axle pulls, first for that since July of 2014, and some easy pinch work. Will try for a full grip workout Thursday

Jeff Parker
2/2/16. Highlights were a 50mm 130#2.5 close and a 20mm PR at 140#3. I've closed my 155 #3 left handed a long time ago but it was MMS, before we even had set blocks 2 hand pinch. Jeff Parker
2/7/16 Decided it would be fun to try my hand at the mashmonster ladder as I work on my #3 cert. There seems to be a strong relationship between my top end MMS or 20mm gripper strength and my CCS strength. Worked on filming gripper closes. Did a few with my 146#3, then did 3 with my 155#3. All easy solid closes but bad angles for some of them. Became a contributer and signed up for MM0 earlier today. Will submit the best looking closes later today. Got several 140#3 left hand MMS closes and also got back to getting my 130#2.5 left hand CCS so good proof that top end strength relates to CCS strength for me as long as I keep up with technique work. Hit some pinch and axle, then during the super bowl I'll be doing some hammer work. 2 hand pinch 177x3,3,3 Axle 265x3,3,
Jeff Parker
2/11/16 trained Thursday but didn't have time to log it. Did lots of filmed closes with my 146#3, 153GHP7 and 155#3. It looks much better now that I am using a tripod and the better camera but I had trouble staying in frame since I can't see the video. Trained with Chris and Kong up north at night, did lots of grippers, Ironmind pinch, little big horn and hammer work.
Jeff Parker
2/17 trained with Jake. Grippers, did MMS sets with 151 MM1 replica and 153GHP7, did some 140#3 CCS attempts, close but not closed, and did TNS work with my 111GHP5 Ironmind pinch got a 75.5lb PR 1.5" FBBC vbar worked up to around 240, we didn't weigh it so just a guess. Rep out and holds with Jakes 100lb inch Saturday or Sunday I hope to get some video posted of MMS attempts. If I can get good video and I get some positive feedback on my camera work I will request the MM1

Geralt
Congrats on you MM1 brother! I've had a little thickbar journey as well, but it had a negative impact on my grippers after a few weeks already, so I really need to stay low with thickbar work for a while if I ever want my cert on that damn #3. Jeff Parker
Thanks Geralt! The more I do thickbar the less it seems to affect my grippers provided I get enough rest. 2/2/16 20mm 140#3x3,3,3 155#3x1,1 CCS 111GHP5x5,5 left hand 20mm 140#3x1 130#2.5x4,4 CCS 111 GHP5x3,3 2 Hand Pinch switched to 48mm 187x3,3,3 197x1 DO Axle 285x2,2,2 295x1 lots of Blob50 lifts, little big horn and wrist rolling
Jeff Parker
3/6/16 Mixing it up a bit today TNS 111GHP5 1 single a minute until failure. Made it 17 minutes. Left hand I used my 105#2 made it 8 minutes then continued with my 84#1.5 doing triples until my right hand gave out. Thinking of setting up some medleys to practice tonight and then heavy wrist rolling.

Thinking of setting up some medleys to practice tonight and then heavy wrist rolling. Very nice, Jeff! I was always intrigued by Kevin Fulton's on-the-minute workout. He did more than what is quoted most of the time, but it is along the lines of using a gripper about a full level (#2 for the #3) lighter than your goal gripper. Closing it for very strong singles, on-the-minute. For increasing amounts of singles. I never "trained" that way, but I did occasionally test myself with various grippers. Always TNS. Never MMS. No reason behind that really. Just how it ended up working out for that particular test. I thought that if I could TNS close a 155lb GHP7 for a single every minute for an hour that maybe I'd be able to TNS close a normal-ish GHP8. That did not work out for me, but I was very, very close (@ 1mm) on the GHP8 that I had available at that time. It was 177lbs. Those 60 singles got to be very hard. I probably rushed it too much and the closes should've been more dominating than they were. The first 30 or 40 were very strong. Grinding closes on the first 10, at least. Anyway, I've rambled a bit in your training blog, lol. My point was supposed to be that I think it is a valid method of training. Especially the older I get and realize how little things like accumulating volume with an easier gripper can equate to bigger things without the stress and strain of repeated #3 closes.
Jeff Parker
Thanks Ben. Since I have switched from kind of traditional weight training for overall body strength to crossfit style I have done lots of AMRAPs, circuits and on the minute training. My shoulder pressing strength is now the best it's ever been and most of the shoulder work I do is on the minute singles doubles or triples. I've been mixing it in to grip every now and then. An hour straight of TNSing anything sounds brutal, much less a GHP7!! 3/6/16 second workout about 10 hours after grippers 65lb ironmind pinch, 131lbs little big horn, Blob50, 245lbs DO axle, done circuit style with each exercise back to back then a 1 minute break for 5 rounds. Heavy wrist rolling and Ironmind heavy hammer 2 work
Geralt
I won't hijack Jeff's log but 60 TNS closes in one hour with a Ghp7. Jikes! Keep it up Jeff with the TNS work. It helps me a lot lately, although progress is slow. But it's progressing. So that's what counts.
