Fire Walk With Me 2

I haven't kept an on-line log of any sort since about 2008. It just struck me that I might want to put some stuff up on the Gripboard here.

First off, I will explain the title for those who don't know about it.

In college, one of my room mates introduced me to the series Twin Peaks. Now, Twin Peaks was on originally in like the early 90's. I didn't learn about ti until my senior year of college. My friend had all of the episodes where the red little person made appearances. That was all I knew about Twin Peaks for several years, then I obtained the entire series on DVD in 2008.

It was then that I truly got obsessed with Twin Peaks and began buying books about it, researching it on the net and even got the prequel video, Fire Walk with Me.

Since my alter-ego is Napalm, I thought Fire Walk with Me fit well, so that is what I named my original training log on my old and now non-existent forum at DieselCrew.com.

For my first workout post-2012 Nationals, I wanted to do something a little different, so I took the kettlebells out and did some juggling.

I followed this up with by breaking a 60-D nail. This is the first time I ever broke a nail that thick and struggled with it for the first 18 minutes. I was switching back and forth from Double Overhand to bend it non-braced to the thigh to open it back up, and then back to DO to bend it again.

Then I realized that there was probably no need to do anything non-braced since it's a braced bend when opening it, so I started going between the legs for the bend and within 2 or 3 minutes the nail snapped.

It was really cool watching the shape of the nail turn from straight to a V to more of a W as it warped due to the heat. Also, I thought it was cool that the heat of the constant re-bending process krept outward away from the center of the nail and underneath the wraps. Makes perfect sense that the heat would translate like that but since I'd never broken anything serious like that, it surprised me.

Worked out with my friend Kyle Kintner tonight. He and I were in school together from 5th grade on and we even ended up graduating from the same college. Kyle played a bunch of sports but was a stand-out in Track, especially the pole vault.

In our first workout I ran him through a bunch of grip challenges and he was able to pinch 5 tens and two 35's to near lockout.

He had never heard of grip training or done anything like it ever, so I thought it was awesome for him to hit these two feats.

What's awesome is he has remained engaged about training and we had our second session tonight. He is really into it and I dare say he might stick around for a while. Although he hasn't done free weight training int he last few years, his numbers are still respectable, benching 225 for a set of 3 and pressing 135 overhead for multiple sets of 5 in push press style.

We didn't hit grip tonight, but instead I handed him a partial deck of cards. I showed him the basic technique and he blew through them in a few seconds.

I can't wait to see some of the stuff he is able to do if he stick with it. He is just a natural athlete. We shall see!

August was the classic feats of strength tournament. I just ran card tearing week last week, primarily through my email newsletter.

Yeeha! This gonna be a gold resource for inspiration and top class grip work. Twin Peaks -The "coffee quote" by Mr. Cooper is a classic! I look forward to read your updates.

It's painfully obvious I will never keep a log up involving me typing everything I did during workouts. However, I do want to try to keep a log of stuff.

Last night, JT Straussner came here and trained. Turns out he lives in the area now, about 30 minutes away, due to the current job he has in the natural gas industry.

I have more videos to upload, but here is a start of what went down.

Blob Snatch

Not the best one I have done, but my hands felt raw from all the work I did Sunday.

Double Blob Clean

Felt really good on this one. Everything lined up so nice. I can muscle them up into the clean, but it feels so much better when they move smoothly. Less risk of busting your chops or tweaking a wrist that way, too.

I really appreciate JT coming over. I have a video of him as well. He broke the Blob and Inch Dumbbell off the ground several times. Hopefully get that up today.

I think it is an indicator of poor blood flow to the thumbs. So I have been stretching my ass off the last few days.

It is so awesome to have a regular partner for grip, I can not even put it into words. I am pumped each time JT comes up. Generally it is PR's galore. This si the first day we didn't really PR, but it was still a great session. You can't PR every single time, especially with some of the other stuff we have been training. There will be more PR's to come for sure.

Even though we didn't pull any big numbers or close bigger grippers, we are hitting the same numbers consistently and with less effort, so in my mind, that is still progress.

Thanks for watching.

Gonna try to post videos here for a while, we'll see if I can remember.

My best efforts with the Inch Dumbbell Rows, yesterday. They are tilted WAY too much than I'd like, but even with a tilt, this is the best I've ever done.

I was training my wrestlers the other day. They were doing 1 Hand Snatch with Dumbbells, so I tried and Snatched the 80lb dumbbell easy.

Then I bumped up to 100, 110, and then I said, OK, let's go.

Grabbed this dumbbell, which is about 120 with a 2 3/8 handle. Shot loaded. Missed it twice. Still wasn't quite warmed up all the way.

Next one, i had them grab my phone to tape me and got it pretty easy. I only ever Snatched this thing 1 time that I recall and it was nowhere near this easy.

Training is going well. I pray I can keep making gains and stay injury free.

Grip Rush with Inch Dumbbell Rows

Here's one from a few weeks ago. I've barely tried Blobzilla at all the last year, maybe a handful of days it's come off the shelf, but it came up pretty good.

40 Reps with the Blob - Goal is to beat 2 minutes. All reps are to lock-out. I dropped one or two before returning it to the floor, but wasn't worried about that.

One of the most hit-or-miss feats ever, for me, the 50lb Blob Curl.
