I've seen a lot of bench press stuff on the forums so I thought I would post my PR from last summer. 405

Excellent press. That's a really wide grip you take. Those are some funky colored plates.

Are you beyond four plates now as this was last year?

Wide grip takes some getting use too but it's better technique for pushing heavy weight. It allows you to incorporate more chest and lats/back. You also have less distance to travel with the bar.

I haven't lifted heavy since that day. I changed my goals to bench 225 for 30 reps. I have done it a couple times but not very consistent yet.

Dayuum dewd! I had no idea you were that strong on the bench. Was this shortly after the grip comp last year?

I think it was about 2 month before the grip contest. I have worked hard but gains on bench press has always been pretty good for me.

I'm no expert but if you work on your technique a little I think you will make some good gains in weight.

awesome man, will do! Eric actually mentioned trying a wider grip recently. im going to see what i can do with it.

Tommy when you go wider your weight may decrease a little at first but you will quickly improve. Make sure you keep your shoulders "locked in" don't roll them out at the top of your press.

Very cool! I will definitely work on it. Much thanks man!

Btw, im still trippin on how jacked you are in the vid.. Did you trim down for the comp?

we were finishing a max weight program, so we had been doing heavy, compound lifts. Low reps, heavy weight (which my muscles respond to very well) for about 9 weeks. Gradually working up to less reps and heavier weight.

I lost about 15 lbs before the contest, I was trying to cut down some.

Nice lift!

There's a great 7-part "So you think you can bench" video by Dave Tate on youtube.

Not saying that you need it (my max is 385 so I'm in no position to "advise" here lol), he does have some very good points though and his stuff is applicable to raw and shirted benching as well.
