Blob Finish?

Tryed searching for this but couldn't turn up any info...I just got my hands on a York Fatman! It looks like it was repainted at one point in its life and the finish is slick as ever...it won't hold chalk very well at all...My question: Is it acceptable to sand blast the slick paint off and just let the iron season naturally to make for a better surface to hold chalk? Question of "feat purity" I guess you could call it. With the slick paint on it it feels as if I might not be able to make much progress with this brute...can't get much friction going at all. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Bare metal is fine, I prefer it.

If there were significant grooves or anything over the standard finish? Maybe we should have a requirement for surface finish, say for instance 63μ" ! :)

No grooves or lines just slick black paint...looks like the Fatman has a date with the media blaster and a trip to a certified scale.

Here's my suggestion, like I outline in my Blob ebook...If you're going to modify the Blob/Block in some way that could make it easier to lift, do so in only a small region, away from the main place to grip it. So, in the case of a Blob, you would grip it up around the number or York. For training, you could treat a spot well away from this in order to get a grip. Just my thoughts.

Like that Idea Jedd. Two blobs in one...Once I can lift it in the bare metal spot, then i can train for the slick finish lift. Thanks for the input.
