Hardness Of Spiral 60d

Guys where do the grey spiral 60d from Home Depot fall as far as ratings?

Where is a good place I can go locally to buy something to use as wraps?

I bent some nails wrapped in terry towel pieces lol and I have to imagine it would be a lot better using leather. The towels suck. Way too squishy and move all around etc

I loved the spiral 60's for a variety of things, including reversing one barehand. I would say they are about 250# at 6".

Don't bend in towels unless you fancy a trip to the emergency room. Spend the 5 bucks and get some IMP's. If they don't seem hardcore enough, just bend in a single one. Its plenty painful.

If you are set on leather, you can maybe find a sheet at Michael's and cut a 10' x 4' set. David Horne has lovely leather, but its quite small. FBBC's leather is shi.. er, not very good.

How the hell do you bend it barehanded? And not have the point gouge into your palm?

I may just buy the im set of nails then.

The White & Green are not going to be that useful for you. Personally I think the most useful progression is going to be 0-1 Drill Rod. Start with "H" and work your way up to "M" and then 19/64" bars. That's Red Nail territory.

I agree with mike, I bent the red right after i got the "M" bar.

Where can I get the drill rod locally?

So are the white and green ultra easy?

So should I buy some imp's and some red nails? Are blues worth it or are more. 60ds about the same?

My point is if you can get all the steel

needed for progression it tends to

build you up faster. And you can order

drill rod online or go to fastenal. I use to

bend alot of crs and hrs from tractor supply

till i found a machine shop that cuts it and sells

It to me dirt cheap.

So we have a fastenal near us and I was on their website. I seen the o1 drill rod. What thickness' should I get? If I get a few. Thanks

The are letter sized drill rod. I doubt they will have what you need in stock, and the site I sent you has always been very reliable. Start with H or I and buy 3 foot lengths which you can cut to 7". at your strength level you will progress quickly to K, L & M. once you are in M territory you will maybe need some red nails. Blue nails are not worthwhile because they are 6". If your goal is to bend the Red, you should only bend 7" stock. 6" is a whole different ballgame.

So reds are 7"?

That site you linked looks like good prices too.

All I have are spiral 60d and some grade 5 bolts from Home Depot. They didn't have non spiral ones but that was middle of winter. They may now. It's all 6" stuff though.

Is 6 harder then 7 of an equal rod?

Yea the red is 7" and if you plan to ever

cert the red use Imp wraps.

Well I just put an order in for im pads and a pack of red nails. Figured might as well get both at the same time.

How do you guys recommend wrapping them?

I lament the death of Steelbenders. Everything was codified in one place.

Best DO technique video:

I wrapped exactly 2" in on the IM pads, which you should crush under 100's of #'s of weight for a few days to get a good crease. There is a technique for getting a tight wrap called the "Eaton wrap". Basically you don't just roll it from the end, but you fold a cm of pad over the nail then pull back then roll. like you are rolling sushi. or a blunt.

Thanks for the vid! As for putting it under weight. Do I fold the pads in threes? And then pile weight on them?

Exactly. They will come folded. press them under some plates or a board with weight on it. I also actually chalked them heavily when I did this. Then, after 3 or 4 days, I would roll them very tightly around some thin steel and put three rubber bands around them to sit for another week to get that shape.

Well, I generally had 3 pairs in rotation. I would also use them for microloading. the difference between a newer and very broken in pair was a good 10# extra on the kink. When I could kink a red in my crappiest pair of IMP's, I knew I was good to go. Watch some of Wiggy's old videos. He had some of the shittiest IMP's I've ever seen and he was bending 500# bars in them.

Nothing beats a pair of torn tattered and dangerous IMPs. I still have my original pair and bend only in those. Never took the time to break in a new pair. The more broken in and full of holes, the better.

The Imp's will be stiff at first but it will help you learn

to wrap the steel tight, then when there broke in you

will find its much easier. Just make sure to get a nice

tight wrap. Also when i started i marked the 2in mark

in the wrap, Now its just ripped where i marked them.
