EJ Livesey
Guys this is what happens when you wrap your bolts too shallow. As far as i know Hannes and I are the only ones to have done this. Needless to say I was very, very lucky. This could have ended very badly. After the break i decided to call it a day while i was still whole.

JaredWith1R
I'm not sure if the throat-slicing break or your brute strength is more terrifying. Call it a tie.
JoshW
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_gxBvhPkmXA# Watched this the other day of Aaron doing it ^ Looks pretty painful, nearly got your artery there mate. Strong stuff though!
acorn
I've had that happen too on a Big G8 in a comp. Well the snap anyway. Stings like a motha! Different head marking than usual. Not a Triangle and can't remember what it was now. Glad you are ok, Aaron

EJ Livesey
thanks for checking it out guys. I honestly felt nothing, it just happened. i wasn't too surprised, I've snapped a lot of stuff, but nothing this strong. Please be very careful how you wrap bolts. i wrapped too shallow and put too much force too quickly on it. Needless to say this angered me. Anthony C.
Wow! That is an awesome bend but very scary. Question for your professionals....would be pointless if I were to wrap an IM pad around my neck when bending? Say as, like a protective handkerchief? Question for your professionals....would be pointless if I were to wrap an IM pad around my neck when bending? Say as, like a protective handkerchief? possibly a waste. When i used to DO 8" wrenches i never knew how they would bend. i snapped more that a few of those. so what i would do was wrap the entire wrench then wrap the ends. when they snapped it was caught in the wraps.

Frank Pizzo
Brutally strong....glad to see you are fine though. Same thing was happening to me when I would go all out on a regular Gr8 they would snap. Then I think it was you who pointed out I was wrapping them to shallow. Definitely a good point for everyone to remember with bolts.

Hulk Smash? yes, Hulk will smash this very soon Brutally strong....glad to see you are fine though. Same thing was happening to me when I would go all out on a regular Gr8 they would snap. I got careless and wrapped 1/8" too shallow. it happens, usually i can bend bolts without bending or wobbling the threads at all, not this time

king crusher
Damn that will startle a guy. What does it take for you to put the bar on the wall behind you? Rail road spike, pipe wrench bend? Apollon axle bend??
David_wigren
I'm glad you're ok EJ! With a bit of bad luck that could've ended badly. It was a good idea to feel around the neck and check it closely right after the break. A cut don't always feel that much immediately after the cut. And if a cut is severe, every second before it is treated will count!
king crusher
Has anyone seen or had reds or drill rod snap? Or is it just bolts usually due to threading
acorn
Has anyone seen or had reds or drill rod snap? Or is it just bolts usually due to threading I had seen it in other things when I was still bending. Seemed to be very dependent for me on strength level compared to what I was bending. If it was a max effort bend stuff never broke. But if I could move something very fast sometimes it did. Had it happen on some FBBC Hex one time, a 60d I was bending very fast to show off, Drill rod, etc. - Aaron

David_wigren
I have some pretty hard squares that snap during the crushdown on every other bend.
MANTHOS
I have a couple of class 10.9 black bolts at 5/16'' and I'm very skeptical of trying them. Now, I don't think I'll try them ever. Glad you're OK EJ.
king crusher
Wrap one fully in a imp then wrap as normal. That would make me very comfortable with anything

Tim71
Ouch. Did it hurt your wrist any at all with the sudden jolt? Was it a course thread bolt? Theoretically, those would snap easier than the fine thread.
