Az Grip Comp In Spring?

Recommended Posts

Fellow Gripsters,

Aaron and I have been tossing around the idea of doing a grip comp in the Spring. However, a number of folks in the state have hung up their grippers, and the folks that use to come down from other states seem to have done the same.

Are there any new gripsters or other folks in AZ or surrounding areas that would be interested in participating in a grip comp in AZ - say March/April time frame?

Likely location is in PHX.

I would definitely come if I still lived in Phoenix !!

I wish now that I was active in grip then...I missed out on meeting and competing with all you guys in the Southwest crew...oh well what is it they say; hindsight is 20/20.

What's the contest going to look like event wise?

I'm open to suggestions, this is not set in stone yet.

I'm thinking:

Grippers - 20mm set

Axle

2HP

Vbar, or hub, or ?

Are you nearby Oldruststuff?

How close would the contest venue be to Sky Harbor airport? I'm looking to travel to a couple grip contests this spring, but the thing I want to avoid is having to drive a couple hours in addition to my flight.

I am thrilled to see there are new gripsters out there willing to join us.

The venue would be in Gilbert at my house - only about 30 min from sky harbor or Tempe. It would most likely be on a Saturday.

I'm thinking we would have Novice & Open categories. At this time, I know of no women that are interested, but we can do a women's division as well if any register.

Trophies & prizes will be awarded.

I'll keep an eye on this thread for details. Haven't gripped seriously for awhile, but starting to get back into it. Looking forward to learning from some experienced people.

Here are three possible dates for the 2015 Arizona Cactus Grip Showdown:

March 14th, March 28th, April 4th

Please respond with your preference.

For folks in town that are interested in stopping by to train in the weeks beforehand, feel free to PM me.

I'm wondering if most of the AZ competitors aren't on the GB but you'd think there's be some a State away that'd travel.

For people on the fence I've traveled down to the AZ comps a couple of times now; great people, smooth events, strong competitors, and the beer... the food.. Oh Mama!!

Well, in all fairness this query about the dates only got posted Sat evening, I've PM'd jdlewis5, who hasn't been on GB since 11/13. Also, I can't expect Eric or Yori would drive over all the time, that's quite a drive from DFW area to PHX. I've done that a number of times myself, and it's no picnic.

So far, I'm leaning towards April 4th, based on the limits response I have gotten in other social media. Also, April has a lower possibility of rain. This will be done outside, so there's that ;-).
