Mike Sharkey
I'm not entirely trying to hijack this thread, but what would people pay to have a Silvis set to a specific number of your choosing? Is that a service people would want? If for instance you could set a Silvis exactly at say, 120#, it would probably be worth 20$ to me. I was actually thinking about asking you about that last week. Its a pretty useful service. Reasonably, with shipping we're then talking around 60$ for a gripper. Which its totally worth if its going to help you break through a plateau.
bencrush
I'm not entirely trying to hijack this thread, but what would people pay to have a Silvis set to a specific number of your choosing? Is that a service people would want? Matt, I know that contest promoters would appreciate some grippers set to very specific gaps to bridge the easy #3 (135ish) to 160lb level in contests. I've been to contests where there is a lineup like this: easy grippers...then 135lbs, 142lbs, 144lbs, 147lbs, 151lbs, 152lbs, 153lbs, 155lbs, 157lbs... That promoter could just dump a few of those and get one "spec rated" by you to jump about 5lbs instead of 1 or 2lbs. And then having a gap of 12lbs between the hard #3 level and the next step up. That sounds great and if people want to adjust it they can take the distance measurement before so they can set it back when they wish. Look forward to see what Matt thinks. Andrew P
It's a bit labor intensive but I've built a couple grippers at set poundage by using a set of handles that are removable like a Silvis. Rating the spring and adjusting the handles till I get the poundage I want then gluing a pair of production handles at the same location and running a final rate. In theory if you have enough springs and the patience to find the correct mounting depth/spring combo you can make a gripper at any poundage you’re looking for.
Evan Raftopoulos
just got a 2.5 coc rated 128. It’s easier than my other 2.5 so now I’m more confident that the other one is in the 130s. I also have the CFF Pit Bull gripper (84 points of adjustment) which is very easy to rate yourself with just a strap and weights (given it’s shape). I'll try to rate it tomorrow and let you know. This gripper however seems to be more for no set training, explosiveness, etc.
