Silver Bullet

OK I tried this for the first time yesterday and got a pathetic 12 seconds. I know enough to know that sucks but what is considered a "respectable" time? I am hoping a little training might help :).

I'm not sure what I can do right now, but I want to say 30 seconds or more with a #3 is very good.

That's good for a start, Chris. You will be doing 25+ in no time bro.

I've seen Pro Strongmen at the Fit Expo fail to get anything. That event has tended to chase some of them away from grip contests.

Sometimes, with a harder 3, 12 seconds is an outstanding hold.

I don't know much about correlation between being a Captain of Crush and the Silver Bullet hold, but I think it takes at least 30 seconds to pull off a CCS close of a Number 3.

Next you'll be telling me I should actually train with my grippers :)

I think that you'll get a lot longer time just practicing the set up. i know I improve my times a good bit just because I became more efficient at setting it up.

You tried it with what gripper and how much weight on the bullet string?

I dont know if you left that out cause there is some standard everyone except I know about :D

I have a silver bullet laying around that I only tried once or twice.

Maybe I should try it next week!

I think it's hard to draw comparisons between a CCS close and a Silver Bullet hold. I can't CCS a #3, but have done a Silver Bullet hold with a 148 RGC-rated #3 for close to 45 seconds in training. My strength endurance is better than my max strength.

i've gotten 26 seconds about a year ago, i don't even have a good crush maybe 155-160 tops. The trick with the bullet is to set up good like Brent said and also pace your squeeze. For the first 10 or so seconds you have to consciously back off your max crush and keep it in the tank for when the going gets tough. With your crush and knowledge, you will likely get over 30 with a bit of work... easy

Yeah...I was a bit surprised by your post.

Mike - it's the first event at Gripmas this year - I haven't done grippers in a while - just testing the water so to speak - the water was deep and cold :). I have now set the goal of not finishing last in this event :). I will do at least a dozen gripper closes as "training" before the contest :). Maybe.

It actually requires a new "out of the package" #3 for the record through IronMind - which we will have at Gripmas - but of course not in training. So we won't know the rating during the competition. The winner of the event also wins the gripper - it will be up to them if they ever want to have it rated.

Shouldnt this event be done like grippers with blockset in comps?

There could be a prerated gripper at a sertain poundage.

Everyone could have the same rating in all comps.

I have heard of 3s as low as 138# and as high as 157#.

Feels like out of the package grippers will be very inconsistent!

Peter - we are following IronMind rules. No reason to reinvent the wheel here.

I wouldnt call making contests more accurate reinventing the wheel.

It was just a thought from someone on the outside, looking in.

I'm holding an IM developed event with IM equipment that has an IM Record that people can try for under the IM rule set. If we follow the IM rules it will count for both my contest and for IM. I have already talked to Randall and we should be good to go. If I change them - the lifts done would only count for Gripmas - why would I want to do that? I'm certainly not going to set any records but there are people who might be coming that could have a very legitimate chance of doing well or breaking the record. If the luck of the draw gives us an easy or a hard #3 - so be it - it will still be totally fair to every competitor at my contest who will be using the same exact gripper. The lifts will then be sent to IM for them to judge any record attempts.

Ok. Didnt know it worked that way.

Still feel that the inconsistency is an issue tho.

How much weight must be held on the silver bullet. Isn't it a nub of a gripper handle? Couldn't a guy attach a carabiner to another gripper and hang weight off it then use a three to hold that gripper with weight hanging off it?

That can be done if you didn't want to compare yourself with others on the SB. This thing was made for grip contests. And to have something to challenge for a record.

If you wanted to use it for strength, you could...but a strap would be better for that.

...and it's 2.5 kilos I believe.
